Job Responsibilities & Duties include but are not limited to the following:
- Serves as QAQC Supervisor for the Plant.
- Serves as a Quality Representative for the Fiber Plant and provides QAQC support to the Plant.
- Serves as certified Safe Quality Foods (SQF) Practitioner for the Plant.
- Serves as a Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) certified individual for the Plant.
- Serves as a Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) Preventive Control Qualified Individual (PCQI) for the Plant.
- Oversee all analytical, operational and administrative aspects related to Quality Control Laboratory Programs.
- Administers QAQC document control program.
- Provides Plant QAQC SQF training.
- Participates in on-site third party (SQF or similar), customer and regulatory audits/inspections. Makes on the spot decisions on how to respond to SQF or customer inspection inquiries about food quality and/or customer requirements that reflects the company’s best interests.
- Supervise two Laboratory and any Temporary Laboratory personnel including recommendations and follow-up on termination offences.
- Recommend/Decide on documentation needed to comply with Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA).
- Decide on Certificate of Analysis (COA) layout and communication with Customers.
- Handle product and equipment Quality HOLDS. Communicate HOLDS to appropriate personnel, chair scheduled HOLD meeting with Production site Managers. Recommend product disposition to Hold team with evidence to support decision.
- Make decisions on schedules, performs and documents the verification and validation of Food Safety and Quality Plans/Programs consistent with the requirements of the current SQF Code to include food safety & quality protection equipment such as balances, scales, metal detectors, magnets, and X-Ray machine. Review and approve documents.
- Develops, schedules, delivers and documents all employee training required by the current SQF Code with the exception of laboratory testing performed by QC Laboratory and operating personnel.
- Investigate and submits responses to audit non-conformances through the appropriate electronic or manual response system.
- Prepares the annual SQF Program summary for Management review and approval.
- Prepares and maintains quality-related documents to support the Sister Plant ISO-consistent quality program.
- Archives and destroys QAQC documents/records consistent with Company document retention policy.
- Complete and assist any tasks or projects assigned by the QAQC Manager.
- Makes decisions on laboratory inventory, orders laboratory supplies in a timely manner consistent with current Company policies and procedures.
- Develops &/or implements new laboratory test procedures as needed.
- Writes QAQC laboratory procedures and work instructions as needed using the Qualtrax (or current) document management system. Routes documents to appropriate personnel for review/approval/notification in Qualtrax.
- Schedules, executes and documents periodic laboratory testing. Approves all testing forms.
- Processes and submits samples, as necessary, to appropriate outside laboratories for testing.
- Initiates and maintains files of lot folders which contain lot test results and all other relevant lot-specific QAQC/Operations documents. Maintains and destroys lot folder records consistent with current Company record retention policies and procedures.
- Tracks storage and destruction of QC laboratory retain samples consistent with established procedure.
- Provides recommendations on tools, resources or other items needed to meet overall business demands.
- Prioritize the entire team, where necessary, to complete all the day-to-day tasks. Provide back-up support as needed.
- Complete and assist any tasks or projects assigned by the QAQC Manager.
- Maintain regular consistent and professional attendance, punctuality, personal appearance and adherence to all relevant policies and procedures.
- Realize efficiency gains.
Minimum Requirements and Qualifications:
- High School Diploma required. Bachelor Degree in Microbiology, Chemistry, Food Science or related field required.
- Strong sense of customer service and meeting customer demands.
- Strong sense of detail, objectivity and accuracy.
- Strong working knowledge of plant equipment and operations.
- Five years equivalent job experience in an industrial environment favored.
- Able to communicate effectively to all levels of the Organization
- Competent writer of procedures, work instructions, summary reports, business letters, e-mails.
- Adept in use of MS Office, particularly Outlook, Excel, Word and ideally Power Point to a basic level.
- Experienced in the use of business management software, preferably SAP.
- Experienced in the use of document management software, preferably Qualtrax.
- Able to perform basic business math calculations.
- Flexibility to adjust schedule as needed to meet business demands.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
