The Product Engineer is responsible for globally qualifying compatibility and interoperability of consumer devices (phones) with vehicle infotainment systems (Uconnect). The Product Engineer will interface and engage with consumer device manufacturers such as Apple, Google, Microsoft, and Samsung. Manage interoperability (IOP) testing with 3rd-party suppliers. Streamline qualification IOP strategies. Seek out and integrate best consumer device company practices into Uconnect. Construct and deploy test benches. Define requirements and validation procedures/processes. Characterize consumer electronic interfaces and define test structure. Determine root cause of interoperability issues with logging tools and bring to resolution, and proactively drive quality. Promote qualification results into customer website framework.
Basic Qualifications:
•Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited university
•Systems engineering experience
•Project management experience
•Experience with mechanical and electrical integration
•3 years’ automotive experience with exposure to audio, telematics, and consumer electronics
•Knowledgeable of requirements documentation and definition
•Knowledgeable of consumer device space (phones, media players, tablets — Apple, Samsung, Microsoft, Nokia, Motorola, HTC, LG)
•Knowledgeable on Bluetooth, consumer device validation methods , and operating systems
•Ability to construct HW/SW benches, root cause, and deploy in the field
•Understanding of Bluetooth protocols, USB, WiFi, Mirrorlink
•Ability to use Bluetooth, USB, and WiFi test tools.
•Ability to work with and lead cross functional teams
•Strategic out-of-the-box thinker
•FMEA, DVPR knowledge
•Experience root causing issues with BT/USB/WiFi protocol analyzers (Frontline, Ellisys, Beagle)
•Experience with CAN bus analyzers (Vector)
Preferred Qualifications:
•Master of Science in Engineering, Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited university
•Master of Business Administration degree
•Web design or web execution knowledge
•Knowledge of cyber security and best practices thereof
•Able to act decisively within a team
•Understanding of CAN or equivalent
•Affiliation with Bluetooth SIG Group or equivalent
•Design and release experience
•A passion for technology
•Well-rounded outward attitude
•Knowledge of quality methods and tools (Green Belt — DFSS/Reactive, 3L5Y)
