Department Summary
The JH Campbell Units 1&2 Maintenance Department is a part of the overall Site Maintenance Department that is responsible for the ongoing maintenance generating plant and fuel handling equipment. The JH Campbell 1&2 Maintenance Department is responsible for performing maintenance activities such as major equipment overhauls, preventative maintenance, routine maintenance, and some Capital projects. The JH Campbell Site Maintenance department will at times support maintenance activities throughout the Consumers Energy Generation Portfolio.
Job Description / Responsibilities
Under directive supervision, performs maintenance work as required at the fossil generating facilities and where close supervision is called for by this job description, they will be closely supervised by the occupational group they are assisting, including but not limited to such duties as:
•Conducting the work so that the employees and the public are safeguarded at all times.
•Reporting any abnormal conditions that develop during the progress of the work.
•Performing custodial duties including sweeping, mopping and cleaning floors, washing windows and cleaning walks (snow removal of walkways and entrances), cleaning walls, furniture, fixtures, toilets, and washrooms.
•Changing of building light bulbs and on mobile equipment (except in hazardous locations as identified in NEMA standards).
•Mixing and installing concrete.
•Lubricating, cleaning, and making minor repairs to auxiliary equipment structures, windows and grounds, including rough carpentry.
•Perform Class IV asbestos work.
•Cleaning and performing semi-skilled painting of equipment and buildings.
•Under close supervision, assist in ash disposal including but not limited to bottom ash, dumping bins, washing air heaters, deslagging boiler tubes and unplugging fouled lines (including instrument air lines).
•Moving and transporting repair parts and tools.
•Cleaning and repairing drains and sewers.
•Erecting rough scaffolding and staging.
•Under close supervision for non-routine stockroom assistance (physical).
•Adjusting and repacking low pressure valves on plant systems of 150 PSI or less that is non-toxic or non-flammable gases.
•Under close supervision, assist in cleaning and operating intake screens and racks.
•Checking and recharging firefighting equipment.
•Operate fork trucks, pickups or similar vehicles.
•Changing compressed gas cylinders.
•Maintain lawns and shrubbery.
•Under close supervision, assist generating plant electricians.
•Must be willing to travel to other generating plants to perform work.
•Performing confined space rescue work.
•Performing other similar and related work.
Requirements/Qualifications
•Must have all qualifications of an Advanced Unskilled Worker (e.g., manual work required around the yards, buildings, grounds and in the field)
•Must pass the Maintenance aptitude test.
•Must be a high school graduate or equivalent.
•Must qualify for an automobile operator's license and demonstrate ability to drive a motor vehicle safely.
•Must successfully complete training as required.
•Must be able to be fitted and to wear PPE including but not limited to:
•PAPR
•Half mask respirator
•Full face respirator
•Chemical protection suit
•Rubber gloves
•Rubber boots
•Face shield
The following skills will set you apart from others:
Preference will be given to individuals who possess one or more of the following skills and have had at least one year of experience:
•Performed maintenance and/or operations activities at a power plant.
•Military experience (Power Plant Operator, Turbine Room/Steam Room/Boiler or Naval Engineering Rates: Engineman, Electricians Mate, Machinist Mate, Boiler Technician).
•Maritime Academy (Associates Degree in Power Plant, Bachelor's Degree in Maritime Engineering).
•Automotive Technician - State of Michigan ASE certification.
•Certified Welder.
•Machinist experience (tool & die).
•Millwright experience.
•Electrical experience.
