Department Summary
The qualified candidate will work as an Engineer within the GE&S Component Engineering - Compression and Storage Group which is based in Jackson, Michigan. The Compression and Storage Group is responsible for the overall integrity and strategic planning for 15 gas storage reservoirs and 7 compressor stations. This position will report to the Engineering Lead, with some travel required throughout Michigan. The candidate must have a strong engineering background while demonstrating strong communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills. The individual should desire to learn, grow and should be highly adaptable. Experience working with contractors, field operations personnel, problem solving, and computer skills are essential. The ideal candidate will have extensive knowledge in natural gas fired reciprocating internal combustion engines and compressors as well as machining processes and principles as well combustion processes. The candidate will provide a critical liaison between engineering and field operations and will offer a mixture of field and office related tasks.
Job Summary
The proposed candidate will perform standard to moderately complex assignments utilizing professional work knowledge and abilities, requiring application of standard techniques, theory, procedures and criteria in carrying out a sequence of related engineering tasks. Judgment is required on details of work and in making preliminary selections and adaptations of engineering alternatives. The proposed candidate must independently evaluate, select and apply engineering theory, techniques, procedures and criteria, using judgment in making adaptations and modifications. Assignments have clear and specified objectives and require the investigation of variables.
The qualified candidate will:
•Develop and implement solutions to operating and maintenance problems.
•Determine the root cause of failures and provide solutions.
•Interface with operations staff in the support of equipment and operating modifications.
•Manage engineering contractors used in equipment and piping modifications.
•Review engineering contractor's drawings, calculations and specifications.
•Interface with mechanical contractors and machinist to complete necessary repairs.
•Prepare engineering calculations, equipment specifications and construction specifications in support of unit rebuilds and repair modifications.
•Specify bids and prepare bid evaluations for equipment and services.
•Interface with supply chain to provide technical guidance for the procurement of material and services.
Requirements/Qualifications
•Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited college or university
•2+ years of related experience

•Bachelor's Degree (or advanced degree) in Mechanical or Metallurgical Engineering.
•Previous Compression Engineering, including familiarity with machining and combustion.
•Must be self-motivated and organized.
•Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
•Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
•Must be flexible and able to manage multiple tasks and shifting priorities.
•Must demonstrate sound engineering judgment and the ability to solve problems and make decisions.
•A willingness and ability to work as a team member with multiple work groups.
•A willingness to travel around the state and spend extended periods at various work locations.
•Ability to obtain Certification of Engineer in Training (EIT) within 6 months and/or Michigan PE registration.
Location may be negotiable depending on selected candidate, but will require at least 1 to 2 days a week in Jackson, Michigan (Parnall) Office.
