Mental Health Court (MHC) Support Staff Intern

• $18.00/ Hour
• This part-time, temporary position allows for a maximum of 1,000 hours per calendar year. It does not include any benefits.
• Position is bound to the funds available as a part of the MHC Grant Contract awarded by SCAO. Should the grant funding end or become insufficient, this position may be reduced or eliminated.

Duties:

• Provides support staffing for the part-time Mental Health Court (MHC) Coordinator and team.
• Maintains procedural and clerical elements of the program in Berrien County and may include working from the Niles or St. Joseph courthouse locations.
• Serves as liaison for and among MHC stakeholders and team members.
• Interacts with MHC participants to obtain information and maintain current records, adhering to all confidentiality requirements.
• Ensures that all paperwork and documents relating to the program are accurately assimilated into court and program files.
• Collects and submits data required by the State Court Administrator's Office via electronic database system.
• Schedules participant review hearings and meetings associated with the MHC, including stakeholder gatherings.
• Assists the MHC Team during review hearings and show cause or probation violation hearings.
• Conducts drug testing of participants and prospective participants at the Niles and St. Joseph courthouse locations.
• Assists in the preparation and distribution of program reports and statistics, as required by the SCAO or at the request of MHC stakeholders.

Education Requirements:

• Associate degree in criminal justice, health science, social science, social work, business or other related field; OR
• At least 20 college credits with an interest in pursuing a degree in criminal justice, law, health science, social science, social work, business or other related field.

Special Requirements:

• Transcripts required with application, unless waived or deferred by MHC Judge.
• Should possess strong computer skills including knowledge of word, spreadsheet, presentation, and database solutions.
• Comfortable speaking in public with strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Foreign language skills or past experience working with diverse populations are a plus.
