The Gasoline Engine Development & Calibration Engineer is responsible for conducting engine hardware and systems testing along with calibration development. The engineer will plan and coordinate day to day activities of an engine dynamometer including interaction with technicians and support engineers. In addition, test plans and time lines will be developed and reports generated to communicate the status of the program to the larger team. Evaluations will occur with new engine hardware and powertrain technologies for future and carry over applications. The engineer will analyze data and solve complex system problems as they relate to hardware selection, engine performance, fuel consumption, emissions, and base engine calibration development. The engineer will manipulate and utilize large and complex sets of engine mapping data. The engineer will also actively participate in the decision process of base engine hardware selection and core engine calibration to achieve functional objectives.
Basic Qualifications:
•Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or equivalent Engineering degree
•Minimum of 5 years of experience in the development and calibration of gasoline spark ignition engines, powertrain systems development; or an advanced degree with 2 years of academic research within a dyno lab setting
•Data acquisition experience collecting and processing data
•Fundamental knowledge of internal combustion engines
•Working knowledge of engine analysis and calibration tools, emissions regulations, engine technologies and competitive products
•Outstanding problem solving and analytical skills
•Good teamwork skills and ability to work independently
•Effective communication and interpersonal skills
Preferred Qualifications:
•Master of Science degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited university
•Minimum of 7 years of experience in engine development, powertrain systems development / engine calibration / controls systems development / OBD diagnostics within the automotive industry
•Calibration process knowledge using design of experiments and advanced optimization techniques
•Proficient in advanced simulation tools
•Proficient in Matlab / Simulink
