Job Summary:
The primary function is to decontaminate, assemble, sterilize, and deliver supplies and equipment needed to care for surgical and other hospitalized patients on a scheduled basis seven days per week and on call as needed.
Essential Functions:

Applies principles of asepsis in a knowledgeable manner.

Assembles and maintains necessary instruments, instrument sets, equipment, and other supplies to ensure adequate function in the operating room and other hospital departments.

Anticipates instrument and equipment needs of the operating room and ensures needs are met.

Follows established methods for decontamination, preparation, and sterilization of reusable supplies.

Demonstrates proficiency in the use and care of sterilization and disinfection of equipment.

Assures sterilization processes are monitored according to hospital policies and procedures.

Provides a safe, efficient environment by adhering to BAMC policies and procedures.

Adheres to TJC professional standards and BAMC policies and procedures.Attends training sessions as directed.

Communicates effectively in unit activities to identify and solve problems.

Must be able to complete physical, sensory, and mental requirements of the position.
Additional Responsibilities:
Qualifications:
- High school graduate.

Special training in Sterile processing or surgical related field or certification as nurse’s aide with 12 months direct patient care experience including experience in reprocessing surgical instrumentation.

Ability to use and understand Medical/Surgical terminology to quickly and accurately fulfill hospital staff’s instructions and needs.

Must have high energy level with ability to work under stress of the operating room atmosphere and exhibit emotional maturity, stability, and flexibility.
Working Conditions:
Potential exposure to Latex products, blood borne pathogens, hazardous materials, and communicable diseases. Exposure to body fluids, human tissue, contagious diseases, and sharps as well as unpleasant sights, odors, and materials. Exposure to electrical current. Environment is climate controlled.
