Education/Experience: Previous experience in respiratory therapy within a hospital; good communication and organizational skills; ability to work with minimal supervision.
Qualifications: Responsible for all aspects of respiratory-related items/services within the department, under the supervision of Respiratory Therapists.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities: Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Complete proper patient documentation in initiation of respiratory therapy procedures:
- Therapeutic modality
- Oxygen administration
- Complete proper patient documentation on follow-up visitation(s).
- Utilize proper material for patient educational program.
- Assist in the coordination of in-store phone calls concerning respiratory care.
- Conduct follow-up visits on patients utilizing respiratory care modalities (ie., oxygen concentrators, etc.), under the supervision of a Respiratory Therapist..
- Ongoing follow-up phone calls to patients utilizing H-tanks/liquid oxygen to assure oxygen and disposable supplies are adequate.
- Assist in proper filling of customer orders, as requested.
- Assume on-call responsibility to assure after normal business hours coverage for departmental services, under the supervision of a Respiratory Therapist.
- Generation of orders electronically and/or manually.
- Verification of insurance coverage and coordinate financial responsibility with the patient.
- Establish and coordinate with the patient and caregiver(s) for therapy and/or equipment instruction, when applicable, under the supervision of a Respiratory Therapist.
- Coordinate all aspects of services including physician’s orders.
- Maintain an open line of communication with the patient and/or caregiver(s) with regard to future orders and follow-up.
- Act on behalf of the patient, as a liaison, between the patient and the physician with regard to the patient’s needs and safety.
- Maintain an open line of communication with fellow employees and coordinate patient services with other departments.
- Assist in the development/revision of educational material for patient and/or caregiver(s) instruction.
- Participate with in-service education programs/seminars that need to be presented internally and externally.
- Participate with in-service education programs/seminars that need to be presented internally and externally.
- Representation at sales shows, display areas, public health services, and seminars.
- Assume responsibility for self-education through seminars, in-services, classes, and educational media.
- Assist with the evaluation of new products/comparative pricing to maximize reimbursement.
- Audit patient profile to determine margins and substitutes to maximize reimbursement.
- Participate in case conferences.
