Job Description
The Asset Management group provides engineering and technical support to Consumers Energy fossil, hydro, and renewable power plants in Michigan's Lower Peninsula.
The Air Quality Control System (AQCS) Specialist functions as the technical authority and subject-matter expert for fossil fired electric generating plants. Fuels are a mix of coal, oil, and natural gas. Scope of work includes Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) units, Pulse-Jet Fabric Filters (PJFF's), Spray-Dry Absorbers (SDA's), Dry Sorbent Injection (DSI), Activated Carbon Injection (ACI), and Urea Based Ammonia System (UBAS). AQCS Specialists work with plant staffs to provide emissions control process optimization, technical direction to Operations and Maintenance crews, equipment inspection and condition assessment, reliability improvement, run/repair/replace decisions, and economic evaluations.
The AQCS Specialists will report to the AQCS Section Lead. The AQCS Section also keeps up to date with applicable State and Federal regulatory requirements, and industry best practices through EPRI, IEEE, ASME, and other codes and standards.
The AQCS Specialist provides fleet-wide support in the area of emissions controls. Duties include but are not limited to the following:
(1) AQCS technical support and recommendations to generating plant staffs:
•Process optimization
•Process troubleshooting
•Equipment inspection during plant outages; determine maintenance required
•Perform remaining life estimates for plant equipment
•Train site operations and maintenance staff
(2) Support of major maintenance and construction projects:
•Equipment and material specifications
•Requests for Proposals
•Drawing and document technical reviews
•Factory Acceptance Tests
•Field supervision and Contractor oversight
(3) AQCS-related support to General Office and Corporate staff:
•Consumable budget updates
•Consumable forecasts (urea, ammonia, lime)
•Ensure regulatory compliance
The AQCS Specialist's areas of expertise:
•Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR): reactor, ductwork and injector inspection, catalyst management, instrumentation support, DCS logic, ammonia consumption, budget estimates, catalyst specifications, major maintenance and project support.
•Pulse Jet Fabric Filters (PJFF): inspections, bag specifications, major maintenance support.
•Spray Dry Absorbers (SDA): inspections, consumable specifications, lime consumption, major maintenance support.
•Dry Sorbent Injection (DSI)
•Urea Based Ammonia System (UBAS)
•Other valuable experience or knowledge;
•Continuous Emissions Monitoring Systems (CEMS)
•Wet scrubbers
•Distributed Control Systems (DCS)
•ESOMs Lockout/Tagout

Requirements
•BS Degree in Chemical Engineering or an engineering degree with suitable relevant chemical or emissions control experience
The following skills and experience will set you apart from others:
•Previous experience with AQCS equipment
•Working knowledge of engineering drawings, thermodynamics, flow dynamics, mass balance, stoichiometry, and combustion chemistry
•Proficiency with MS Office software and the ability to work with other computer-based programs as needed.
This position will be filled using the Engineering or Engineering Technical Analyst job families, commensurate with the successful candidate's education and experience.
