Job Description:
Dematic Corp has an immediate need for a Sr. Manufacturing Human Resource Manager in our Grand Rapids, MI location. This position is responsible for leading and managing all functions relating to our Manufacturing/ Operations group. This role will be responsible for working directly with our Union and within Union contract guidelines. The HR Manager will administer related activities of the plant so as to achieve plant objectives through effective and efficient human resources management. This position will plan, develop necessary procedures, and direct the HR personnel activities of the plant. This key role will provide counsel, advice and recommendations where appropriate to assist in carrying out assigned duties and tasks. In addition, this role will guide where appropriate to assist the Manufacturing/ Operations group management in the achievement of goals and objectives. Primary Duties:
* Oversees recruiting, interviewing, testing, hiring and orienting processes for new Contract and Regular employees. Handles all Termination or Layoff activities.
* Acts as the Primary HR Partner to the Manufacturing / Operations business leadership team to help drive initiatives which achieve increased efficiency and improve the overall operations.
* Acts as primary HR representative for all Union related activities including monthly Union meetings, grievances and arbitration's.
* Assures plant compliance with state and federal labor legislation on such topics as equal opportunity, affirmative action, wages and hours, workers’ and unemployment compensation, occupational health and safety, etc. Directs contention of unemployment compensation. May help represent plant with OFCCP audits. Co-ordinates EEOC complaint defense.
* Deploy positive employee relations strategies.
* Counsels and assists plant management on manpower utilization, turnover control, compensation, performance management, and other human capital matters.
* Coordinates training programs for hourly and salaried personnel.
* Represents company in local organizations.
* Oversees workers compensation (reserves, claims management and contested cases).
* Performs other duties as assigned. Job Family Responsibilities:
Guides development, planning, implementation and/or administration of HR policies, procedures and programs for one or more area of HR. Ensures that policies, procedures and programs are consistent with company HR strategies and systems and state and federal employment law. Guides ongoing update of the company's HR policies, procedures and programs. Ensures quality operations of human resource processes. Keeps abreast of industry trends to ensure that HR policies, procedures and programs are competitive. Guides company and/or senior HR management in HR policy and program matters, making or recommending appropriate decisions as consistent with strategic direction. May manage HR activities for a department, operating division, or subsidiary.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Successfully defines work flows, jobs, and reporting relationships to obtain optimum effectiveness. Area of responsibility is primarily tactical/operational in nature, with limited strategic impact. Develops and manages departmental budgets and/or business plans for a small to mid-size department or business unit. Typical responsibility for innovation is to continuously enhance or improve existing policies, products, and methods. Identifies resource needs and develops justification. Troubleshoots and resolves very complex problems. Recommends/ determines organizational structures and supervisory relationships for own segment of company. Responsible for overall success of function or project.
