Applications are invited for a Lecturer (full-time teaching faculty) in the Biomedical Engineering (BME) Department at the University of Michigan. The successful candidate will be part of a dedicated teaching team focused on experiential learning, engineering design, and professional development of biomedical engineers.
The BME Department at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor (bme.umich.edu) is a joint department between the College of Engineering and the Medical School. It harnesses intellectual and physical resources from across campus to create a world-class learning environment. Applications from individuals in all areas of biomedical engineering and related disciplines will be considered. We are particularly interested in candidates with experience in one or more of the following areas:
- Bioinstrumentation - knowledge and experience in software that supports biomedical instrumentation, such as LabView and supporting our current courses in this space.
- Biocomputation - Statistics, AI and machine learning in biomedical engineering.
- Biomedical Engineering Design - Knowledge in modeling, simulation, Capstone Design.
The main responsibilities of this position are:
- Teaching of undergraduate biomedical engineering courses, with an emphasis on engineering fundamentals, bioinstrumentation, biocomputation and/or design. Teaching load is expected to be up to 4 courses per academic year, and course assignments will depend on expertise, interest, and departmental needs.
- Contribution to curricular development and continuous improvement of the BME curriculum through departmental service and professional development.
PhD in engineering or the physical sciences, or a BS/MS degree with significant and relevant industry experience.
Demonstrated commitment to teaching and education, as well as a strong motivation to improve the educational experience and engage students in experiential learning.
The start date is flexible, with an ideal start date in August 2027.
This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the Lecturers Employee Organization, AFL-CIO, which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours and other terms and conditions of employment.
