Design Release Engineer – Air Intake Systems
Location: Auburn Hills, MI
We’re seeking an engineer to support the development and release of air intake components for internal combustion engine and hybrid vehicles. This opportunity is well suited to someone who enjoys solving technical problems, coordinating with suppliers, and guiding components from concept through production.
Direct air intake experience is preferred, but candidates with related product development, component engineering, or Design Release Engineering experience are encouraged to apply.
What You’ll Do

Own the development of air intake components, including ducts, air cleaners, hoses, resonators, filters, and brackets.

Provide technical direction to design teams and suppliers while dedicated designers complete CAD modeling.

Review CAD models and engineering drawings for packaging, functionality, and alignment with program requirements.

Coordinate engineering analysis, prototypes, physical testing, and validation activities.

Develop and maintain Design Failure Mode and Effects Analyses (DFMEAs) and Design Validation Plans and Reports (DVP&Rs).

Track supplier progress, resolve technical issues, and ensure component quality, cost, and timing objectives are met.

Support engineering changes, production concerns, and cost improvement activities.

Provide occasional support at engine and vehicle assembly plants.
Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent from an ABET-accredited program.

Experience in product development, component engineering, design release, or related engineering work.

Ability to review CAD models and engineering drawings.

Knowledge of engineering testing and validation activities.

Ability to coordinate with suppliers and cross-functional teams.

Familiarity with DFMEA and DVP&R processes.

Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.

Initiative and the ability to manage multiple priorities independently.

Willingness to travel domestically and internationally as needed.
Preferred Experience
-
Automotive or OEM product development.

Air intake, air induction, filtration, ducting, hoses, or related powertrain components.

Injection molding, blow molding, plastics manufacturing, or tooling.

Siemens NX/UG.
-
NVH, rise-over-ambient, water-fording, or related engine and vehicle testing.

Design for Six Sigma or Green Belt training.
