Position Summary:
The MSUFCU internship program is designed to support interns in developing career readiness competencies as defined by NACE. Throughout the internship program, interns will gain hands-on experience and enhance essential skills that prepare them for success and career growth. Interns will have the opportunity to develop competencies in career and self-development, communication, critical thinking, equity and inclusion, leadership, professionalism, teamwork, and technology.
The Money Lab Intern represents the credit union through relatable, inclusive, and accessible financial education experiences for visitors of the Money Lab. This role focuses on creating engaging learning opportunities, delivering interactive financial education programs, and supporting community outreach efforts that promote lifelong financial well-being. Money Lab Interns help participants build financial knowledge, confidence, and healthy financial habits through hands-on activities, real-world examples, collaborative learning experiences, and age-appropriate educational strategies that support different learning styles. Through classroom visits, field trips, community events, and Money Lab programming, interns create welcoming environments that encourage curiosity, critical thinking, and informed financial decision-making among diverse audiences.
Work Location:Onsite; At MSUFCU's 311 Abbot building in East Lansing, MI
Work Schedule: Part-Time 15-25/week; Hours will be scheduled based on student's school schedule and business hours (8:30AM - 5:00PM Monday-Friday)
Paid Hourly Internship - $16.00/hour
Duration: Fall Semester with potential to continue into future semesters
An offer of employment with MSU Federal Credit Union and affiliates is contingent upon the agreed work arrangement (onsite) and work location. MSU Federal Credit Union may or may not be able to accommodate temporary or permanent changes to work arrangements or allow employment outside the city and/or state of residency in which the new hire resides at the time of offered employment.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Maintain and manage programs and projects with guidance from leadership
Research, evaluate, design, develop and compose accessible content for Money lab (games, videos, worksheets)
Recommend products and services, provide personalized financial education to enhance member experience, and achieve individual and department goals.
Engage with kids and field trips that visit the money lab.
Attend financial literacy and community events within local communities to promote Money Lab
Ensure accurate processing and procedures, maintaining operational integrity and a high standard of service
Engage with members and prospective members through community events to build relationships and grow the branch opportunities and field trips.
Participate in department meetings and professional development trainings and ensure all trainings are done according to credit union timelines given.
Help to maintain results and data from money lab visits and field trips
Seek professional development opportunities and maintain an understanding of financial trends impacting financial literacy content
Understand the Credit Union's policies and procedures to ensure compliance and accountability for managing operational risks. Adhere to established internal controls and procedures to safeguard assets, prevent fraud, and maintain the integrity of the credit union operations.
Engage in branch, organizational and self-paced training to strengthen competencies within the role while building skills and abilities required for future growth and readiness.
Perform other duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:
High School Diploma or Equivalent required.
Experience in educating preferred
Actively pursuing associate or bachelor's degree, preferably in business, education, or a field related to the job responsibilities
Ability to commute within surrounding communities
Ability to work weekends
