Department Summary
The Learning and Development Internship Program is geared toward current college students who have a passion for
instructional design, training, and development along with an interest in Consumers Energy and the energy industry. The
Learning and Development Internship Program at Consumers Energy has core principles of skill development, ability
enhancement, and knowledge application experience designed to be complimentary to traditional classroom instruction.
Job Description/Responsibilities
Cooperative Assistants (Interns) of all levels will work as part of a larger team to provide hands-on support for various
learning and development aspects of our business. Our Learning and Development Intern's assignments may include
designing employee development and technical skills training programs for employees of Consumers Energy, assessment
of development and/or training needs and design of appropriate development and training programs. In addition, interns
may perform similar tasks as assigned.
In addition to working alongside full time employees carrying out the instructional design and development functions for
Consumers Energy, Learning and Development Interns will have the opportunity to participate in a number of optional
events within the program. This includes intern networking events, company tours, and the consistently top-ranked
philanthropic event, the Intern Challenge.

Requirements/Qualifications
Enrolled and actively pursuing a degree in the educational technology, instructional design, Industrial Organizational
Psychology, or similar field applicable to the Learning and Development department. Master's level students are eligible
for our intern roles as well. The minimum GPA requirement for this internship position is 3.0.

Knowledge of adult learning theories, facilitation skills, and accelerated learning and experience applying them in a
business environment
Advanced knowledge and proficiency of design and delivery technologies.
Experience handling numerous tasks and multiple projects.
Team oriented and self-motivated with the ability to work in a fast paced environment.
Ability to work independently with cross-functional teams, and with all levels within the organization.
Advanced knowledge of and working skill with online learning courses
Advanced proficiency in using MS Windows software.
Excellent verbal and written communication skill.
Ability to read large quantities of technical materials and extract key ideas for use in written/spoken lesson plans and
programs.
Essential Functions:
Assists in the design of training programs for classroom delivery and/or via electronic learning and independent study.
Develops training budgets and coordinates inter-departmental input. Defines objectives; develops training methods;
designs program evaluations; designs course material and training aids. Presents development and/or training concepts
to management for review and approval. Prepares written and electronic training promotional materials. Provides
information, resources, materials and equipment to departments in support of their training and employee development
programs, as available; prepare reports and correspondence; participate in meetings; compile data. Maintain current
knowledge of workplace diversity issues, EEO, sexual harassment, and ADA regulations, laws, and policies. Uses a
variety of computer programs in designing and developing training materials including developing text and graphics.
Maintains regular, predictable and punctual attendance during regularly scheduled work hours at assigned worksite.
Hours and Travel
This position requires the individual work 40 hours per week with the majority of time spent in the office or specific field
locations.
