Design and Release Engineer
Dearborn, MI
Pay: $42.31+/hour
We are seeking an experienced Design and Release Engineer to support the design, development, validation, and release of automotive body and exterior components. This is a fully onsite contract opportunity working on vehicle programs from concept through launch and production support.
What You'll Do
Lead design and release activities for automotive exterior systems and components, including trim, glass, wiper systems, spoilers, roof rails, running boards, badging, and other exterior features
Develop engineering solutions that meet quality, cost, weight, performance, timing, and manufacturability targets
Collaborate with design, manufacturing, quality, suppliers, and cross-functional engineering teams
Manage engineering changes, prototype builds, validation testing, and product launches
Support BOM management, product releases, technical reviews, and issue resolution
Analyze product concerns and implement corrective actions using structured problem-solving methods
Ensure compliance with engineering specifications, customer requirements, and regulatory standards
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Product Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related field required
Master's degree preferred
Experience Requirements
3+ years of automotive product engineering or design and release experience
Experience with automotive body, exterior, or Class A surface components
Experience with CAD design and product development processes
Knowledge of Teamcenter, BOM management, engineering release systems, and change control processes
Experience supporting validation testing, prototype development, and product launches
Preferred Qualifications
Background in injection molded component design
APQP, Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or 8D problem-solving experience
Strong project management, analytical, and communication skills
Experience working directly with suppliers and manufacturing teams
