JOB SUMMARY
The Director of ESG provides regional strategic leadership for environmental, social, and governance priorities within Global Purchasing. The role translates enterprise ESG direction into regional purchasing objectives, responsible sourcing practices, supplier expectations, operating plans, and measurable outcomes. This position leads the functional area through cross-functional collaboration, informed decision-making, and consistent execution across the region.
Consistent with the B12 Director level, this role establishes operational objectives and work plans, contributes to regional direction and policies, leads or influences teams, and makes decisions within the approved budget and assigned authority.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
* Provide regional strategic leadership for ESG within Global Purchasing, aligning priorities and operating plans with company and purchasing objectives.
* Translate enterprise ESG commitments into regional responsible sourcing strategies, supplier requirements, implementation roadmaps, and performance measures.
* Establish regional operational objectives and work plans; assign or coordinate work across direct reports, project teams, and purchasing stakeholders as applicable.
* Partner with Purchasing, Environmental Health and Safety, Legal, Finance, Human Resources, Communications, Engineering, and business leaders to implement ESG priorities and resolve cross-functional issues.
* Lead regional supplier ESG due diligence, risk identification, improvement planning, and escalation processes in accordance with approved company standards and applicable requirements.
* Develop and maintain regional ESG metrics, dashboards, and management reporting; analyze performance and recommend corrective actions or process improvements.
* Provide subject-matter guidance on ESG and responsible sourcing topics that affect purchasing decisions, supplier relationships, customer expectations, and business continuity.
* Monitor relevant ESG trends and regulatory developments and communicate potential regional impacts to Global Purchasing leadership and appropriate partners.
* Contribute regional data and insights to internal and external ESG reporting, ensuring information is complete, consistent, and appropriately supported.
* Support the development of policies and guidelines for the area of focus and drive consistent adoption across the region.
* Manage assigned resources and budget within approved parameters; elevate unplanned or higher-level commitments for approval.
* Lead, coach, and develop team members where direct reports are assigned, or lead the functional area through influence and collaboration where the role operates as a senior individual contributor.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATION
* Bachelor's degree in business administration, supply chain, engineering, environmental science, sustainability, or a related field.
EXPERIENCE
* 10 or more years of progressive experience in ESG, sustainability, responsible sourcing, purchasing, supply chain, or a related discipline, including experience leading complex cross-functional programs.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
* Demonstrated knowledge of ESG and responsible sourcing principles, supplier risk management, and relevant reporting expectations.
* Experience translating strategy into operational objectives, work plans, governance routines, metrics, and measurable outcomes.
* Ability to lead through influence across functions, countries, and organizational levels in a regional matrix environment.
* Strong analytical capability, including data gathering, interpretation, performance reporting, and development of practical recommendations.
* Advanced project management, stakeholder management, communication, and organizational skills.
* Ability to address complex issues using in-depth knowledge of business objectives and to recommend improvements that streamline work, improve quality, and reduce risk.
* Strong written and verbal communication skills for leadership, supplier, customer, and cross-functional audiences.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
* Master's degree in business, supply chain, sustainability, engineering, environmental science, or a related field.
* Experience in a manufacturing, automotive, or global supplier environment.
* Experience with supplier ESG assessments, sustainability disclosures, or recognized ESG reporting frameworks.
SCOPE / DECISION AUTHORITY
* Regional functional scope within Global Purchasing.
* Provides input on regional direction and objectives and assists in setting policies and guidelines for the area of focus.
* Establishes operational objectives and work plans and leads the functional area in collaboration with internal and external partners.
* Makes independent resource decisions within an approved budget and seeks approval for higher-level or unplanned commitments.
* Has decision-making responsibility within the assigned area for goals, objectives, and operating priorities, subject to established company authority and governance.
