Powertrain Engine Calibration Engineer

Role Summary:
The Powertrain Calibration Methodology Engineer assists in developing, testing, and validating calibration processes for internal combustion engines (ICE), hybrid electric vehicles (xHEV), and battery electric vehicles (BEV). Working across physical dyno labs and virtual testing environments (MIL, SIL, HIL), this role focuses on optimizing process efficiency, data correlation, and product delivery to help ensure vehicles meet performance, fuel economy, and emissions standards.
Responsibilities:

Assist in developing and refining calibration methodologies for physical test setups (engine/propulsion dynos) and virtual models (MIL, HIL, SIL).

Analyze test data and support the correlation of datasets between vehicle, dyno, and virtual simulation environments.

Collaborate with cross-functional Center of Excellence (CoE) and control teams to follow best practices and support feature functionality testing.

Gain exposure to hybrid and electrified powertrain control algorithms using MATLAB and Simulink platforms.

Help provide guidance for calibrators to assure system performance and drivability objectives are met.

Utilize data acquisition and analysis tools (e.g., dSPACE ControlDesk/Automation, ETAS INCA, MDA) during laboratory and virtual testing.
Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.

0–3 years of experience in powertrain calibration, testing, or automotive controls engineering.

Exposure to or hands-on experience in laboratory test environments (engine dynos, electric motor dynos, or propulsion system benches) through industry work, internships, or hands-on collegiate projects.

Fundamental understanding of powertrain systems across ICE, hybrid (HEV/xHEV), or electric vehicle (BEV) architectures.

Familiarity with MATLAB, Simulink, and basic control concepts (e.g., PID controllers).

Basic exposure to calibration tools such as ETAS INCA, dSPACE, or similar data acquisition systems.

Strong communication skills and an eagerness to work across multiple powertrain domains.
