Summary
Michigan Technological University Human Resources performs a wide range of administrative support related tasks that contribute to the overall smooth operations of diverse HR functions while remaining flexible, proactive, resourceful, and professional. This department positively represents the University by providing outstanding customer service when responding to the needs of campus clients and external contacts. This is a high volume, fast paced department that takes pride in providing excellent service. This position performs a wide variety of HR related support functions, some internal, some customer facing, that assist in the employment life cycle of an employee.
Responsibilities and Essential Duties
1. Provide administrative support for daily HR functions including answering phones and directing non-routine questions; manage email accounts and utilize HR tracking system; compose routine correspondence; draft replies to non-routine inquiries.
2. Greet and assist customers in a friendly, courteous manner.
3. Receive, process and maintain forms related to Human Resources.
4. Input data to post job searches with workflow follow through.
5. Receive, assign and answer HR inquiries.
6. Help prepare information and handouts for new employee orientation.
7. Independently research and resolve problems associated with Human Resources.
8. Build and maintain packets for New Husky Orientation including but not limited to benefits, payroll and/or employment eligibility verification.
9. Create, maintain and update permanent, confidential Employee files.
10. Data enter and maintain employee records in HRIS.
11. Complete internal and/or vendor audits.
12. Run reports related to employee benefits and employment.
13. Manage assigned HR related workflows.
14. Assist in the biweekly data entry for multiple processes.
15. Be knowledgeable about the organization and business of MTU Human Resources and act as a backup to support all areas.
16. Submit, receive and review background checks.
17. Review, track and code Casual Seasonal Short-Term employment Paperwork.
18. Commit to learning about continuous improvement strategies and applying them to everyday work. Actively engage in University continuous improvement initiatives.
19. Apply safety-related knowledge, skills, and practices to everyday work.
Required Education, Certifications, Licensures
High school diploma or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired.
Required Experience
* 2 years office/clerical experience
* 2 years of proven high-quality customer service experience
* 2 years of basic computing skills, including Microsoft Word and Excel
Desirable Education and/or Experience
* Familiarity and experience with Banner or other HRIS systems Experience working with people from multiple countries and cultures.
