Position Overview
The Safety Coordinator located in Wayne, Michigan plays a critical role in ensuring a safe and compliant working environment within the manufacturing sector. This position is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining comprehensive safety programs that align with regulatory standards and company policies. The Safety Coordinator actively monitors workplace conditions, conducts thorough accident investigations, and leads safety training initiatives to promote awareness and prevent incidents. By collaborating with various departments, the role ensures that safety management systems are effectively integrated into daily operations, reducing risks and enhancing overall site safety. Ultimately, the Safety Coordinator contributes to fostering a culture of safety that protects employees, minimizes downtime, and supports operational excellence.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Conduct regular safety audits and inspections across manufacturing sites to identify hazards and ensure compliance with safety regulations.
- Lead accident investigations to determine root causes and develop corrective action plans to prevent recurrence.
- Deliver safety training programs tailored to Industrial/manufacturing/ and general safety, and site-specific risks.
- maintain safety management systems and safety programs that align with OSHA and other regulatory requirements.
- Manage site specific process safety management (PSM) and Risk Management Plan (RMP) process and procedures.
- Collaborate with management and employees to promote safety awareness and encourage proactive reporting of unsafe conditions.
- Provide daily field safety support to operations and craft personnel
- Assist with development and review of: Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) / Task Safety Plans
- Participate in pre-task planning (PTP) and coordination meetings
- Ensure compliance with: local state and federal regulation- OSHA, EPA, MDEQ
- Work with supervision to implement practical hazard controls
- Track safety metrics, trends, and observations
- Support exposure awareness related to industry-specific processes Reinforce accountability and safety expectations in the field
- Provide field support and reporting on environmental task, SWPPP, SPCC, industrial & Haz waste operations
Required Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field. - Preferred
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in safety coordination or a similar role within the manufacturing industry.
- Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations and safety standards applicable to manufacturing and PSM/RMP environments.
- Proven experience in accident prevention and investigation and safety audit processes.
Physical Requirement
Must have the ability to frequently stand, walk, and lift for extended periods, sometimes with heavy loads. Must be able to work in non-climate-controlled environments.
