Tooling Design Engineer (Temporary)
Location: Dearborn, MI
Pay Rate: $42.31+ per hour
We are seeking an experienced Tooling Design Engineer for a temporary opportunity supporting final assembly manufacturing operations. This role is responsible for delivering production tooling solutions that align with established engineering and manufacturing standards while supporting new product launches and continuous process improvement initiatives.
The ideal candidate will bring strong expertise in automotive tooling design, tooling modifications, manufacturing processes, and production launch support. You will collaborate with engineering teams to ensure tooling is designed, implemented, and optimized for quality, safety, efficiency, and long-term production success. This position also serves as a mentor to engineers and tooling integrators, sharing best practices, lessons learned, and technical knowledge throughout the development process.
Responsibilities
Design, develop, and implement final assembly tooling solutions
Support tooling modifications and continuous improvement initiatives
Ensure tooling meets engineering standards and manufacturing requirements
Provide technical guidance and mentorship to engineering teams
Support production launches and tooling validation activities
Drive data-based problem solving and process improvements
Maintain expertise in tooling, manufacturing processes, and launch readiness
Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field, or equivalent experience
5+ years of experience with automotive tooling standards, manufacturing processes, facilities, and operator interface tooling
Experience supporting at least one major automotive tooling launch
Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills
Passion for innovation and continuous improvement
Preferred Qualifications
10+ years of automotive tooling experience
Final assembly tooling design and delivery experience
Virtual manufacturing, program management, and manufacturing statistics knowledge
Excellent communication and presentation skills
