JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL WRESTLING COACH
LOCATION: Meridian Junior High School
STARTING DATE: August 19, 2026 following School Calendar
QUALIFICATIONS: Preference given to those with prior coaching experience.
RATE OF PAY: Per Master Agreement between the Meridian Public Schools Board of
Education and the Meridian Education Association - Extracurricular Pay Schedule (Appendix C)
COACHING POSITION
SUMMARY: A Meridian Public Schools Coach provides leadership and supervision for the team and works closely with staff and school administration. The Coach promotes an appreciation of physical fitness, teamwork, and sportsmanship.
REPORTS TO: Athletic Director
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Other duties may be assigned.
- Maintains excellent personal hygiene.
- Possesses and maintains an excellent attendance record.
- Coordinate and supervise the sports program.
- Promotes an appreciation of physical fitness, teamwork, and sportsmanship.
- Designs training program and sports program.
- Organizes and supervises the coaching staff to assure that the program is properly implemented.
- Ensures all athletic activities conform to MHSAA guidelines and district policies.
- Communicates effectively with all members of the school district and community.
- Works effectively with booster clubs and other community organizations.
- Reacts to change productively and handles other tasks as assigned.
- Supports the value of education.
- Any other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
- Physical ability to perform assigned job duties.
- Ability to positively communicate with staff, students and community members.
- Demonstrated working knowledge of sport.
- Experience as a coach/assistant coach is preferred
- Experience working with students.
- Knowledge of weight training and conditioning techniques.
- Knowledge of CPR and First Aid recommended.
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before small groups of employees of organization.
Mathematical Skills: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral diagram, or schedule form.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Valid driver's license with good driving record.
Other Skills and Abilities: Ability to pass a district written and physical test. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff and the community. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.

Specific vision abilities required by the job includes close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
