The Position
The Resident Activity Coordinator plans, implements, promotes, and evaluates recreation and social events and programs intended to enrich the lifestyle of Senior Housing residents.
Examples of Job Duties
The Resident Activity Coordinator:
- Works with residents, resident committees, and employees to develop varied and balanced programming.
- Gathers resident feedback through surveys, discussions, and program observation.
- Adjusts programming when necessary to maintain resident participation and interest.
- Plans, organizes, and facilitates programs and events.
- Creates calendars, newsletters, flyers, and other promotional materials.
- Coordinates room and activity setup with staff.
- Manages the activity budget and related entertainment and supply expenses.
- Coordinates resident committees, volunteers, and employees involved in programs.
- Works with community volunteer organizations to increase resident and volunteer participation.
- Trains employees and volunteers assisting with activities and related tasks.
- Uses office equipment and software necessary for daily work and addresses routine technical issues.
- Supports the mission, goals, and core values of the department and City.
- Performs other assigned responsibilities.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Applicants should possess:
- A high school diploma. An associate degree is preferred.
- At least one year of administrative or event-planning experience in a comparable organization.
- Prior experience organizing activities or events, preferably involving senior citizens.
- Strong customer-service skills and the ability to work effectively with senior residents from varied backgrounds.
- A genuine interest in interacting with senior citizens and supporting their social, physical, and emotional needs.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Ability to learn additional software used by the department.
- Ability to make decisions consistent with regulations, policies, and procedures.
- Ability to prepare routine correspondence and handle office-management responsibilities with general supervision.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to balance changing deadlines and unexpected events.
- Ability to perform effectively under pressure.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Physical Demands
The position requires movement throughout the office and Senior Housing facility, desk and computer work, participation in activity setup and cleanup, telephone and in-person communication, and occasional lifting, moving, or securing objects weighing up to 25 pounds.
Mental Demands
The position requires written and verbal communication, interpretation of documents and information, problem solving, mathematical reasoning, observation, learning new information and skills, detailed work involving multiple simultaneous tasks, and interaction with employees, departments, residents, and others.
