Mechanic/Communications Liaison II
Oneida County, located in beautiful northern Wisconsin, is accepting applications to fill a Mechanic/ Communications Liaison position with the Oneida County Sheriff's Office.
JOB DUTIES: This position is responsible for helping to maintain and repair the Sheriff's Office fleet, including squad cars, ambulances, heavy trucks, and other County-owned equipment. The position also installs, maintains, and troubleshoots public safety communications systems, emergency vehicle electronics, radio equipment, computer equipment, and related technology used by the Sheriff's Office and other public safety agencies throughout Oneida County. Additional responsibilities include performing preventative maintenance, responding to vehicle breakdowns, assisting with maintenance of radio tower sites and backup generators, maintaining equipment inventories, and coordinating repairs with vendors as needed.
Candidates are not expected to have experience in job duties listed above in order to be considered, but should have strong mechanic skills. Oneida County provides excellent training and support to help employees develop the knowledge and skills needed to succeed.
EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS: Qualified candidates must possess a high school diploma or equivalent, have general knowledge of gas and diesel mechanical repair, possess a valid Wisconsin driver's license, and have the ability to diagnose and repair mechanical and electrical systems. Knowledge of emergency vehicle electronics, communications equipment, radio systems, and low-voltage wiring is desirable. Candidates must be able to work a flexible schedule and maintain contact with the Sheriff's Office as needed. Successful applicants will be required to pass a pre-employment drug screen, background investigation, and any other pre-employment testing required by the Sheriff's Office.
WAGE AND BENEFITS: The 2026 hourly starting wage for this position is $25.79 to $30.22. Starting pay on the wage range based on previous education and experience. Position includes a comprehensive fringe benefit package which includes affordable health insurance, Wisconsin Retirement System benefits, and generous PTO (Paid Time Off) with the ability to carry over unused PTO hours into future years.
