POSITION SUMMARY:
A Welding Engineer is a skilled professional who employs his/her knowledge of welding, metallurgy, materials,
physics, engineering, and standards for designing, examining, and evaluating welds. Besides this, they plan,
supervise, and document welding operations using relevant drawings, codes, or contracts. He/She oversees
welding teams and welding projects and is responsible for the development and improvement of
manufacturing processes to meet daily production schedules while enhancing productivity and product
quality.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Lead in PQR, WPS, Weld Map, WPQR development and document control.
• Configure computer-controlled assembly, welding, and verification equipment.
• Troubleshoot routine welding technique and equipment issues.
• Evaluate, propose, and implement process improvements increasing welding efficiency and quality.
• Provide technical assistance on welding during customer and third-party audits.
• Maintain all metrics for all welders at the site related to defect rates.
• Provide hands-on welding support to welders, supervisors, and welding technicians.
• Design and develop manufacturing processes for new products, product changes, and related tooling
and fixtures which are consistent with a zero-defect level as well as low product cost.
• Complete accurate manufacturing process documentation and identify critical process indicators.
• Utilize Process FMEA and control plans to minimize risks to quality, safety, and process interruptions.
• Conduct continuous improvement activities to optimize the manufacturing process and cost.
• Maintain knowledge of technical developments related to company products and processes.
• Investigate benefits and features of production equipment and generate investment justifications.
• Create and maintain accurate documentation of process definition, process and equipment evaluation,
design concepts and drawings.
• Coordinate work with outside vendors, assigned technicians and production planning.
• Provide support to the production department in troubleshooting and resolving technical problems.
• Support pilot production of new products, product changes, and enhancements in coordination with
the Manufacturing and Quality Control functions.
• Evaluate customer designs, prepare detailed drawings, and shop drawings to enable the manufacturing
of the product as applicable.
REQUIREMENTS:
• Ability to work on site and in person full time.
• Detailed Knowledge of destructive and non-destructive weld testing
• Intermediate to expert knowledge of welding processes, equipment and ability to apply state-of-theart metals and welding technology solutions.
• Ability to make decisions with little guidance.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Requires a Bachelor/Master’s degree or equivalent in welding engineering or welding engineering
technology.
• Minimum related experience of 2 years with a degree in welding engineering technology, or 1 year
with a degree in welding engineering, in areas of manufacturing, fabrication, or construction.
• Knowledge of safety practices pertaining to welding, cutting, and joining processes.
• Knowledge of welding processes, welding filler materials, and base materials (carbon, alloy, and
stainless steels).
• Working knowledge of AWS D1.1, ASME IX, etc. procedure and performance qualification.
• Advanced knowledge of FCAW, SAW, and GMAW welding processes.
• Knowledge of quality control aspects and understanding of welder performance qualification, including
destructive and nondestructive testing.
• Capable of performing visual inspection of welds and specifying the appropriate nondestructive
examination for a particular weldment.
• Proficient with routine trouble shooting of welding processes/equipment, use of amperage/voltage
meters, etc.
• Defines manufacturing processes and related equipment.
• Works on complex problems in which analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of
various factors.
• Exercises judgment within broadly defined practices and policies in selecting methods, techniques, and
evaluation criteria for obtaining results.
• Determines methods and procedures and provides guidance to other team members.
• Utilizes 2D and 3D SolidWorks drafting skills when appropriate.
• Experienced in office related computer software, Microsoft office, as well as equipment controllers.
• Proven verbal as well as written communication skills and the ability to perform in a team
environment.
