The Campus Safety & Security Officer serves as a member of the Security and Operations Systems Department. They will be knowledgeable in the areas of the facility (i.e. Student Services, Bookstore, Classrooms, Library, Technical Center, grounds, ect.) This position is responsible for oversight of campus ingress and egress and serves as the central point for information to students, staff, and visitors.
The Campus Safety & Security Officer needs to be proficient in the College’s Emergency Action Plan. As they interact with staff, students, and guests. Individuals in this position must demonstrate professionalism and be service-oriented.
The Campus Safety & Security Officer oversees the evening operations, safety, and security of the college sports arena/campus. This role serves as the primary point of contact for students, athletes, coaches, and visitors. The position requires a mix of facility oversight, customer service, and event support, to include occasional weekends.
Examples of Duties
- Facility Security: Lock and unlock doors according to the daily schedule.
- Routine Patrols: Walk the facility regularly to check for hazards or unauthorized users.
- Policy Enforcement: Ensure visitors follow campus rules and safety protocols.
- Incident Reporting: Document property damage, mechanical failures, injuries, or behavioral issues.
- Customer Service: Answer guest questions, provide directions.
- Emergency Response: Act as the first responder for building evacuations or medical emergencies.
- Light Maintenance: Clean up immediate spills, clear walkways, and report major maintenance needs.
- Conduct monthly fire extinguisher, AED, eye wash inspections, and quarterly first aid kit inspections along with restocking when needed.
- Work in collaboration with the Core Crisis Team to develop and implement training and emergency protocols.
- Assist in drills as required by the college
- Take active role in deescalating situations that may arise
- Prepare requested/required reports for Security Operations and Systems Department.
- Report any violation of College policies (including tobacco and drug/alcohol on campus)
- Provide escort services and other basic public assistance services as needed; conduct routine inspections of campus buildings and grounds; report any concerning situations. Serves as point of contact to emergency personnel, if needed.
- Support and serve as a role model for our mission, vision, strategic and service initiatives. Adhere to the organization’s policies, procedures, and compliance guidelines.
- Per the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act (Clery Act), a federal consumer protection law, your job position entails functions that meet the definition of a Campus Security Authority (CSA).CSAs have a duty to report any crime to the College’s Clery Compliance Officer. This information may be disclosed to them directly, through third-party, or witnessed. As a CSA, you are required to complete annual training which is provided by the College. This training encompasses your role, responsibilities, and reporting obligations

Typical Qualifications
Education, Certification, Licensure:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; some college preferred.
- First Aid, CPR, and AED certifications (or willingness to obtain them) required.
Experience:
- Three (3) to four (4) years of prior public safety and/or security related experience required.
