The primary responsibilities of this position are to report daily and directly to the Public Works Lead and Public Works
Operator 3 to ensure that the Village is clear, clean, and safe. This will include the clearing of roads and sidewalks from
snow, ensuring the parks are well-maintained, providing vehicle maintenance to the Village equipment, and collecting
refuse from the community.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude
them from the job if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this job. Other duties may be required and
assigned:
• Street Duties:
o Remove all snow from the Village streets and apply salt and sand to Village Streets.
o Grade and fill Village dirt and gravel roads
o Repair potholes.
o Install or replace Village signs in Village rights-of-way.
o Trim trees along Village rights-of-way to ensure clear driver sight lines
o Clean streets and gutters
• Sidewalk duties:
o Remove snow and apply salt and sand on sidewalks abutting Village Property and bridges as needed for
safe pedestrian use and elsewhere.
o Repair and replace sidewalk segments as needed.
• Park Duties:
o Maintain parks and park facilities in a clean, safe, and secure manner.
o Repair, maintain, replace, remove, or add park fixtures and playing surfaces.
o Seed, fertilizer, sod, mow, and maintain park lawns and other Village-owned lawns.
o Trim park trees and remove fallen leaves and branches as necessary.
• DPW and Motor Pool Duties:
o Maintain Village vehicles, machinery, tools, and other equipment, as written in the maintenance
schedule.
o Keep all DPW vehicles and equipment clean.
o Perform all regularly scheduled maintenance, as written in the maintenance schedule
• Refuse Collection Duties:
o Collect and compost yard water (i.e., grass, leaves, small branches) as scheduled.
o Collect and chip branches and tree trimmings as scheduled.
o Keep DPW work areas clean and safe.
o Perform all regularly scheduled maintenance, as written in the maintenance schedule.
• Other Duties:
o Be prepared to operate all Village vehicles and other equipment needed to implement various
construction, replacement, or other maintenance projects as directed by the Village Manager.
o Advise the Village Manager and police of all illegal or otherwise inappropriate obstructions of public
right-of-ways, ordinance violations, or other public nuisances observed in the Village.
o Attend Village Council Meetings or Village Council Committee Meetings as directed by the Village
Manager.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
• Recommended to have a minimum of three (3) years of maintenance, construction and/or engineering
experience. Has considerable knowledge of the modern principles, practices, and methods used in both the
private and municipal public works sectors.
• Must demonstrate ability in understanding best practices in construction and maintenance techniques.
• Complete and thorough knowledge of snow removal and anti-icing operations. Sound judgement and decision
making skills.
• Must be able to obtain First Aid/CPR Certification within 1 year of hiring.
• A valid CDL Class B or A license in good standing with the State of Michigan DMV.
• Good interpersonal skills including the ability to enforce regulations and work effectively in a team environment.

PAY:
• Operator 1 – $22.18 - $22.68 Per Hour, 0-2 Years of Operator Experience
• Operator 2- $23.73 Per Hour, 2+ Years of Operator Experience
