JOB TITLE: Entry Level Accountant
RATE OF PAY: $54,142.40 per year entry, progressing to
$62,192.00 per year after 3 years (PB06)

This is a full-time position with benefits as provided for within the Teamsters labor agreement, although union membership is voluntary. Position may require occasional evenings and weekends in addition to the normal business day office hours.

GENERAL SUMMARY:
Bay County is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Entry-Level Accountant to join our Finance Department. This position offers an excellent opportunity for recent graduates or individuals looking to start their career in accounting. The successful candidate will gain hands-on experience in various accounting functions, including purchasing, accounts payable, accounts receivable, budgeting, and grants management. The role is responsible for processing transactions requiring a thorough knowledge of budgeting, accounting, and grant functions for various departments.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Assists in the preparation and maintenance of financial records and reports.
- Reconcile bank statements and general ledger accounts.
- Participate in month-end and year-end closing activities.
- Provide support during audits and assist in the preparation of audit documentation.
- Collaborate with other departments to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting.
- Assist in the preparation and monitoring of budgets
- Support the management and reporting of grants.
- Input, review and approve journal entries.
- Ensure accuracy of financial transactions.
- May provide assistance on various accounting duties through the Finance Department as needed.
- Learn and assist with purchasing procedures including purchase order creation and vendor management.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Consistent and punctual in person attendance is an essential function of this job.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related field. Strong attention to detail and organizational skills. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint; testing may be required. Excellent mathematical, analytical, written/oral communication, and time management skills.
PREFERRED QUALIFIECATIONS:
Internship or prior experience in an accounting role. Familiarity with accounting software and financial management systems. Knowledge of Governmental Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) as promulgated by the Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB). Experience in governmental or fund accounting is desired.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: (With or without reasonable accommodation)
This position involves sitting most of the time and/or being mobile or standing for brief periods of time. Additional requirements include the ability to move objects according to the following weight & frequency: generally, 10 pounds of force up to one third of the time. Valid Michigan operator’s license required.
