POSITION SUMMARY:
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Lead Infant Teacher is responsible for planning and implementing the curriculum and daily program of activities that are developmentally appropriate to meet the needs of infants (birth through 18 months of age).
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Treat all children with love, respect, and dignity
- Know and follow childcare licensing requirements
- Plan daily activities to impact the unique needs of children’s social, emotional, physical, and intellectual development
- Implement activities which are designed to teach children concepts and skills through play and active manipulation of objects using the Standards of Quality and Curriculum Guidelines, National YMCA Program Guidelines, and licensing criteria for infant and toddler age programs
- Provide communication and opportunities for parents to be actively involved in all phases of the program
- Provide accurate documentation of children’s personal files, attendance, emergency information, and other reporting criteria necessary for proper programming or licensing guidelines
- Maintain an inventory of equipment and supplies throughout the year, notifying director of needs, and replacement of damaged or worn equipment
- Practice emergency procedures 4 times per year to ensure safety of all children
- Attend a minimum of 16-24 clock hours of staff development conferences, workshops, or seminars on early childhood education annually and participate in monthly staff meetings
- Lead, coach and mentor staff in the classroom, model behaviors and provide feedback
- Know and follow appropriate mandated reporting procedures
- Participate in yearly self-assessment, evaluation, and goal setting
- Maintain professional attitudes and practices when dealing with children, parents, community members and other staff, serving as a representative and role model for the Dow Bay Area Family YMCA
