Thorough knowledge of orthopedic traction, bracing, and casting procedures, alongside proficiency with orthotic and prosthetic devices. Ability to clearly articulate descriptions of orthopedic conditions based on an advanced understanding of anatomical structures and their interrelationships. Comprehensive understanding and proper application of aseptic techniques during dressing changes and surgical field preparation.
Responsibilities
- Assists in the care of patients by fitting and applying pre-operative braces, crutches, other soft goods, and preparing patients for all testing procedures.
- Prepare and apply casts and orthopedic appliances.
- Assisting with orthopedic procedures, including wound care, aspirations, minor surgical procedures, and fracture reductions.
- Maintains a clean, orderly, and safe environment for patients and visitors. This includes cleaning, sterilizing, and storing instruments in accordance with practice policies.
- Complies with established personal protective equipment requirements necessary for protection against exposure to blood/body fluids, chemical disinfectants, radiation, and other hazardous substances.
- Observe radiation safety and OSHA guidelines.
- Inventory, order, and maintain all departmental supplies at defined inventory levels.
- Demonstrates responsibility for professionalism, personal growth, and development, including projecting a positive attitude, completing assignments efficiently, and accepting positive criticism; assists with additional responsibilities as needed.
Qualifications
Required: High school diploma or equivalent
Preferred: Associate degree
Certification:
Required:AHA BLS
Preferred: Orthopedic Technician Certification from the National Board for Certification on Orthopedic Technicians
Experience:
Required: One year of experience in orthopedic setting
Musculoskeletal Knowledge: Understanding orthopedic procedures, terminology, and anatomy.
Preferred: Casting experience and 6 months in healthcare setting
