Position Summary

The MRI Technologist operates MRI equipment to perform diagnostic imaging procedures. This role requires independent judgment, initiative, and the ability to tailor care to each patient’s age and individual needs. The technologist contributes to departmental growth through participation in policy development, quality assurance, and continuing education.

Employees providing direct patient care must demonstrate competencies specific to the population served.

Key Responsibilities

• Receive and escort patients to the exam area; review patient information and provide clear instructions

• Perform MRI procedures according to policy, considering patient age and special characteristics

• Deliver timely, high-quality imaging services for radiologist interpretation

• Clean, maintain, and monitor MRI equipment; troubleshoot per manufacturer guidelines

• Report equipment issues to leadership and contact service support when needed

• Provide first aid and assist in emergencies, including adverse reactions to contrast media

• Practice sterile technique and prevent cross-contamination

• Maintain appropriate supply levels

• Support training and onboarding for student technologists, new MRI technologists, and staff learning new procedures

• Demonstrate excellent customer service when answering phones

• Practice MRI-specific safety at all times

• Keep leadership informed of unusual situations and collaborate effectively across the team

Required Qualifications

Education & Credentials

• Associate degree from an accredited Radiologic Technology program

• Minimum three months of clinical and on-the-job training

• Registry-eligible or registered R.T. (MR) and/or ARMRIT certification

  • Registry-eligible technologists must obtain registration within six months of hire

• BLS certification required within six months of hire

• Ability to operate and perform basic computer programs for departmental record keeping

• Excellent interpersonal skills to work with patients, physicians, and staff in sensitive situations

• Leadership and organizational skills, including the ability to work independently

• Ability to perform MRI safety practices consistently

Physical & Sensory Demands

• High levels of mental and visual concentration

• Frequent computer use (40–70% of the time)

• Considerable standing and walking

• Regular lifting of objects up to 20 lbs and assisting with heavier patient-related tasks

• Occasional bending, positioning, and physical motions requiring stamina

Work Environment

• Professional or hybrid home-office environment

• Extensive interaction with Finance, HR, IT, leadership, vendors, and regulatory agencies

• Climate-controlled setting with minimal physical hazards
