Position Overview
The Senior Alliance is seeking a dependable, customer-focused Driver to safely transport older adults and adults with disabilities to medical appointments, healthcare facilities, community services, and other approved destinations throughout Southeast Michigan.
This position is responsible for providing safe, courteous, and reliable transportation while ensuring passengers are treated with dignity, respect, and compassion. Drivers also complete vehicle inspections, maintain transportation records, assist passengers with mobility devices, and help ensure all transportation services meet agency safety standards.
This position is ideal for individuals who enjoy serving the community, working independently, and making a positive difference in the lives of older adults.
Primary Responsibilities
The Driver is responsible for:

Safely transporting participants to and from medical appointments, dialysis, therapy, hospitals, senior centers, and other approved destinations.

Picking up passengers from their homes and returning them safely after appointments.

Assisting passengers entering and exiting the vehicle in accordance with agency safety policies.

Safely securing wheelchairs and mobility devices inside agency vehicles.
-
Following all Michigan traffic laws and agency transportation policies.

Maintaining positive customer service throughout each trip.
-
Communicating schedule updates with dispatch and supervisors.
-
Completing transportation documentation accurately and on time.
-
Maintaining daily mileage logs.
-
Performing vehicle inspections before and after routes.
-
Monitoring fuel, oil, coolant, tire pressure, and other vehicle maintenance needs.
-
Reporting vehicle repairs or maintenance concerns immediately.
-
Cleaning agency vehicles inside and out as needed.
-
Responding appropriately to emergencies and accidents.
-
Serving as a backup dispatcher when needed.
-
Completing additional transportation-related duties as assigned.
Essential Duties
Passenger Transportation

Transport older adults and adults with disabilities.
-
Provide door-to-door transportation services.
-
Assist passengers using walkers, canes, wheelchairs, and mobility equipment.
-
Ensure passengers are safely seated and secured before driving.
-
Maintain courteous and respectful communication with all riders.
Vehicle Operations
-
Complete pre-trip inspections.
-
Complete post-trip inspections.
-
Check fuel levels.
-
Check oil and fluid levels.
-
Inspect tires.
-
Inspect wheelchair lifts and securement equipment.
-
Report maintenance needs.
-
Maintain clean vehicles.
Documentation
-
Complete mileage logs.
-
Complete inspection reports.
-
Complete transportation requests.
-
Complete incident reports.
-
Maintain driver records.
-
File transportation paperwork.
Customer Service
-
Notify passengers of schedule changes.
-
Answer transportation questions.

Communicate with dispatch.

Provide excellent customer service.

Resolve transportation concerns professionally.
Dispatcher Backup Duties
When needed, the Driver may assist with:

Scheduling transportation appointments.

Coordinating driver assignments.

Answering transportation phone calls.
-
Updating customer schedules.
-
Monitoring daily transportation routes.
-
Resolving scheduling conflicts.
Minimum Qualifications
-
High School Diploma or GED required.
-
Minimum one (1) year of professional driving experience operating a van, shuttle, bus, or similar passenger vehicle.

Valid Michigan Driver's License required.

Michigan Chauffeur License required (or ability to obtain immediately after employment offer).

Ability to obtain First Aid, CPR, and AED certification (training provided by The Senior Alliance).

Ability to pass background screening and motor vehicle record review.

Ability to safely transport passengers with disabilities.
Preferred Qualifications
Preference may be given to candidates with:

CDL Class B with Passenger Endorsement.

Experience transporting seniors.

Experience transporting individuals with disabilities.

Medical transportation experience.

Public transportation experience.
-
Knowledge of Wayne County roadways.
