Position Overview
The Senior Alliance is seeking a compassionate, organized, and customer-focused Waiver Eligibility Specialist to join its Community Care team. This position plays a vital role in helping older adults, adults with disabilities, and family caregivers access and maintain Medicaid-funded home and community-based services.
The Waiver Eligibility Specialist works directly with program participants to determine eligibility for Medicaid Waiver services and other public assistance programs, helping individuals remain safely and independently in their homes. The position combines customer service, case support, eligibility determination, field visits, and administrative responsibilities.

Essential Job Responsibilities
The Waiver Eligibility Specialist is responsible for assisting participants with obtaining and maintaining eligibility for Medicaid Waiver and community-based assistance programs.
Responsibilities include:

Assist older adults and individuals with disabilities in applying for Medicaid benefits.

Assist with Food Assistance (SNAP), State Emergency Relief (SER), Section 8 Housing, and other public assistance programs.

Determine and maintain participant eligibility for MI Choice Waiver and related Medicaid programs.
-
Complete Medicaid eligibility reviews and documentation.
-
Conduct participant home visits to collect required documentation.
-
Coordinate with the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS).
-
Monitor participant eligibility and benefit renewals.
-
Review eligibility reports and identify required updates.
-
Verify Medicaid eligibility through State systems.
-
Maintain waiting lists for Community Care programs.

Enter participant information into electronic databases.

Maintain accurate electronic and paper case files.
-
Complete reports and administrative documentation.

Support Community Care Department projects.

Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements
-
High School Diploma or GED required.
-
Minimum of two (2) years of experience in one or more of the following:
-
Experience completing Medicaid applications preferred.

Knowledge of Older Americans Act programs preferred.

Knowledge of community organizations serving seniors preferred.
-
Valid driver's license and reliable transportation required.
-
Ability to travel throughout the service area for participant home visits.
