Position Summary
INTERNSHIP SUMMARY
The Quality Intern supports the Quality function by assisting with process improvement, issue investigation, document review, supplier coordination, and quality systems maintenance. This role provides hands-on exposure to manufacturing quality practices within a regulated production environment, with a strong focus on data accuracy, root cause analysis, standardization, and continuous improvement.
The Quality Intern works closely with Quality, Manufacturing, Injection Molding, and Supply Chain teams to improve product and process quality. This position contributes to daily quality activities by reviewing quality documentation, supporting investigations, coordinating with suppliers, and helping establish standardized work and process controls. The role is intended to provide practical experience in quality systems, problem-solving, supplier quality, and manufacturing process improvement.
Responsibilities
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assist with correction of errors in FPA/QIS systems and support maintenance of accurate quality records.
Investigate quality issues related to parts on hold and help identify appropriate corrective actions.
Coordinate with plastic suppliers to arrange training related to mold setup practices.
Review shop floor standard work and support development of a standardized system for each manufacturing cell.
Partner with Injection Molding to help establish processing parameters for parts that do not currently have setup sheets.
Review FPA/QIS quality documents to identify issues that can be corrected or resolved through document updates and process improvements.
Analyze PFMEAs to identify opportunities for improvement in risk reduction, process control, and documentation effectiveness.
Conduct investigations into supplier-related issues and support follow-up actions as needed.
Contact suppliers to gather information, clarify concerns, and support quality issue resolution.
Identify cost savings opportunities related to quality, process efficiency, scrap reduction, or improved controls.
Review receiving inspection activities to identify potential dock-to-stock candidates based on risk, history, and process capability.
Support general continuous improvement initiatives and other quality-related assignments as directed
Qualifications
Preferred Qualifications
Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in an Engineering, Quality Assurance or related technical discipline
Interest in manufacturing quality, supplier quality, and process improvement
Prior internship, co-op, or project experience in a manufacturing environment is preferred
Skills
Analytical problem-solving and ability to investigate process and product issues
Strong attention to detail and documentation accuracy
Ability to interpret and review quality records, standard work, and process documentation
Effective written and verbal communication skills
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
Ability to manage multiple tasks in a structured, deadline-driven environment
This internship offers practical development in the following areas:
Application of quality tools and methods in a production environment
Experience supporting corrective action investigations and issue resolution
Review and improvement of shop floor standard work
Identification of cost savings opportunities through quality and process improvement initiatives
Work Environment
The position operates in a manufacturing environment and may require time on the shop floor to observe processes, review standard work, and support investigations. The intern will work with cross-functional teams and must be able to maintain professionalism, accuracy, and responsiveness in a dynamic production setting.
