Work Schedule: This position manages a Chicago area recruitment territory and is based remotely in Chicago or the Chicago suburbs. Initial training will be provided at the NMU campus in Marquette, Michigan but this is a remote position. Remote staff spend time on campus approximately 4 times per year for 2-5 days.
Traditionally Monday-Friday 8:00 am to 5:00 pm with occasional evening and weekend work required. Requires about 50% travel (some overnight).
One position available with the potential to be filled at any of the listed levels. Levels include: Admissions Counselor or Senior Admissions Counselor.
Salary: Targeted minimum salaries: $47,360 Admissions Counselor; $50,720 Senior Admissions Counselor
Travel: 26-50%
Brief Statement of Duties
Brief Statement of Duties: Admissions Counselor and Senior Admissions Counselor: Responsible for meeting enrollment goals of a recruitment region or specific population and/or participation/satisfaction goals of assigned programs/activities.
Minimum Qualifications
Required Education: Bachelor's Degree
Discipline/Degree Area: Related field
Required Specialized Training/Certifications: Valid motor vehicle driver's license
Required Minimum Work Experience: Admissions Counselor:
Two years of student experience in college admissions or campus leadership positions or six months of professional experience in any of the following:
a. working with college students in a college/university setting;
b. working with high school students as a counselor, teacher, or college/career adviser;
c. working in public relations, marketing, relationship-based sales or corporate staff recruitment.
Senior Admissions Counselor:
One year of professional experience in college admissions and one year of professional experience in any one of the following:
a. working with college students in a college/university setting;
b. working with high school students as a counselor, teacher, or college/career adviser;
c. working in public relations, marketing, relationship-based sales or corporate staff recruitment.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, or Attributes Required for Satisfactory Performance of the Position Duties:
Admissions Counselor and Senior Admissions Counselor:
Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
Excellent oral and written communication and comprehension skills and interpersonal skills.

Admissions Counselor only:
Ability to acquire knowledge related to the college search process, university academic programs, services and policies; admissions policies and procedures.
Senior Admissions Counselor only:
Knowledge related to the college search process, university academic programs, services and policies; admissions policies and procedures.

Admissions Counselor only:
Understanding of and experience in using technology for sales, customer service, recruitment and/or admissions activities (e.g. reporting tools, student information systems, constituent relationship management systems, content management systems).
Demonstrated use of digital marketing media to include social media and emerging technologies.
Senior Admissions Counselor only:
Demonstrated success in using technology for enrollment activities (e.g., reporting tools, student information systems, constituent relationship management systems, content management systems).
Demonstrated use of digital marketing media to include social media and emerging technologies.
