Overview: Industrial Foundry & Metal Processing Role
The Advance Group has partnered with a manufacturing client located in Westland, Michigan within the industrial foundry and metal processing industry.
We are hiring a Melter / Furnace Operator responsible for operating and monitoring industrial furnace melting systems. This role supports safe production, consistent metal quality, and efficient manufacturing operations.
This is a hands-on industrial manufacturing position involving high-heat furnace systems and molten metal processing.
Job Responsibilities – Melter / Furnace Operator
As a Melter, you will:
- Operate and monitor industrial melting furnaces
- Charge furnaces with scrap metal, alloys, and additives
- Maintain proper furnace temperature and operating conditions
- Monitor and adjust metal chemistry for quality control
- Perform slag removal and metal skimming
- Transfer molten metal safely to casting or holding equipment
- Inspect furnace equipment and report safety, mechanical, or quality issues
- Support production flow and maintain safe foundry operations
Skills & Requirements
- Prior experience in foundry work, furnace operation, metal melting, or manufacturing preferred
- Background in industrial production or heavy manufacturing a plus
- Forklift and overhead crane experience preferred (training may be available)
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality control
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment
- Comfortable working in high-heat industrial environments near molten metal
- Ability to stand/walk for extended periods and lift up to 50 lbs regularly
- Ability to perform repetitive physical tasks including bending, stooping, and climbing
- Must be able to wear required PPE including heat-resistant clothing, face shield, gloves, and safety footwear
Work Environment
This role is in a heavy industrial foundry setting in Westland, MI, involving high temperatures, furnace operations, and molten metal handling. Strict adherence to safety procedures and PPE requirements is mandatory.
Schedule & Pay
- Monday–Friday: 6:00 AM – 2:30 PM
- Voluntary Saturday overtime available
- Pay rate: $17.00/hr
