Job Description:
Job Summary:
Successfully interacts with SVSU faculty, staff, students, and visitors. Performs routine duties necessary to provide support to the University Police/Parking Services Department and campus community. Provides customer service functions at the front window of University Police/Parking Services.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Manage incoming calls to identify and assess customers’ needs and answer questions.
- Refer customers to supervisors or other appropriate personnel when necessary.
- Provide clerical support, including typing, sorting and delivering mail, maintaining files, and data entry.
- Assist with on-the-job training of student clerks.
- Arrange for ordering office supplies and maintain appropriate records for such transactions.
- Initiate the University's notification system(s) to alert the campus community as directed.
- Conduct regularly scheduled tests of campus-wide notification systems.
- Monitor the SVSU campus camera system for suspicious or criminal activity and assist police officers during active incidents.
- Monitor and document police/student communications occurring on campus.
- Monitor Saginaw County 911 radio traffic for campus-related issues and responses.
- Maintain confidentiality of police and student records as required by law and departmental procedures.
- Assist with parking-related duties, including fee collection and permit issuance.
- May occasionally provide LEIN services to police officers and/or the Parking Bureau for billing and notification purposes.
- Receive and reconcile cash and/or checks.
- Attend required training sessions.
- Follow the Mission and Vision of the Saginaw Valley State University Police Department and the Core Values of the University.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Supervision Received:
General supervision is received from the Administrative Assistant to the Chief of University Police. Additional work assignments, direction, and guidance may be provided by other departmental Administrative Professional staff.
Supervision Exercised:
Assists with training student workers and coordinating day-to-day tasks.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Three years of increasingly responsible work experience.
- Ability to communicate professionally and establish positive rapport in unusual situations and with difficult customers.
- Ability to maintain composure during crisis and high-stress situations.
- Must be LEIN certified or obtain certification within 60 days of hire.
- Knowledge of computers and software applications.
- Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Strong customer-service orientation.
- Ability to handle differing and non-routine work situations.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to respond quickly and appropriately to unique and challenging situations.
- Ability to work under pressure for extended periods when necessary.
- Experience and ability to positively interact with all members of the campus community.
- Flexibility to work a varied schedule, including weekends and holidays.
- Ability to perform the essential functions of the position with or without accommodation.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Additional education, training, or certification in a related field.
- Previous clerical experience in higher education.
- Previous or current experience in the public safety field.
Working Conditions:
- Duties are generally performed in an office and public service environment.
- Frequent interaction with students, faculty, staff, visitors, and law enforcement personnel.
- May be required to respond to stressful or emergency situations while maintaining professionalism and confidentiality.
