Description
Northwestern Michigan College is seeking an Adjunct English Composition Instructor to teach first-year writing courses, including ENG 111, ENG 111/11, ENG 112, and ENG 112/12. The ideal candidate is passionate about teaching writing, engaging new college students, and supporting student success through innovative and collaborative instruction.
Key Responsibilities
• Teach first-year composition courses in face-to-face, online, hybrid, livestream, or accelerated formats
• Develop and distribute course syllabi following college guidelines
• Create and grade assignments, exams, and assessments
• Maintain accurate student records and Moodle gradebooks
• Utilize instructional technology and online learning tools
• Encourage active student participation and engagement
• Assess student learning outcomes and implement instructional improvements
• Provide timely feedback and support to students
• Comply with ADA accommodations and FERPA requirements
• Participate in required faculty training, evaluations, and reporting processes
Minimum Qualifications
• Master's degree in English, Creative Writing, or Literature, OR
• Master's degree in another field with at least 18 graduate credit hours in English, Creative Writing, or Literature
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience teaching first-year composition or developmental writing courses
• Experience teaching in integrated computer classrooms
• Experience with online or livestream instruction
• Knowledge of rhetoric and composition, writing across the curriculum, learning communities, and flexible learning models
• Two or more years of college-level composition teaching experience
• Experience using Moodle or other learning management systems

• Proficiency with educational technology and online learning tools
• Strong organizational and classroom management skills
• Commitment to student success and continuous professional development

Work Environment
• Teaching assignments may include daytime, evening, online, hybrid, or livestream courses
• Occasional travel between campus buildings may be required
• Moderate classroom and office environment
