The prototype Body in White (BIW) Engineer will be responsible for overseeing body engineering change control and re-work integration. In addition, the BIW Engineer will interface with the OEM and outside vendors to oversee body re-work. This Engineer will develop and apply requirement sections to existing and new body architectures as well as track and lead issue resolution activities within specific vehicle lines. The Body Engineer is responsible for the engineering, design, development along with timing for seamless Body-in-White updates and integration. Other responsibilities will include interfacing with leading OEM team members, liaison between OEM and outside vendors, developing work instructions necessary for shop integration, quality interface, efficiency improvement initiatives, including communicating technical product status to management.
Qualifications
- Minimum of a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering
- Minimum of 5 years engineering experience with BIW structures
- Must have knowledgeable in use of CAD design software
- Must have advanced level of design/development engineering experience in body - body in white, closures, or exterior
- Self-starter with strong leadership, communication skills and demonstrated problem solving ability
- Ability to complete complicated projects without constant supervision
- Experience in the area of BIW weld processes and procedures
- Knowledgeable with GD&T
- Proficient in MS Office applications (PowerPoint, Excel, Word, Outlook)
- Solid understanding of body engineering and design process, including dimensional and structural requirements
- Engineering experience with tooling and fixtures supporting prototype build processes
- Comprehensive understanding of OEM quality processes and procedures
- Must be a detail oriented, self-starter and willing to work in a fast paced, dynamic environment
- Able to work independently and in a team environment
