Position Summary
The Gaming and Technology Academy of Saginaw (GATA) is seeking an innovative and passionate 8th Grade Science Teacher to join its founding team for the Fall 2026 school opening.
GATA is a technology-focused educational environment where academics, creativity, competition, gaming, and real-world learning experiences are combined to create highly engaging opportunities for student success. The 8th Grade Science Teacher will be responsible for delivering rigorous, hands-on science instruction that inspires curiosity, critical thinking, problem-solving, and a deeper understanding of scientific concepts.
The successful candidate will possess a strong command of Michigan Academic Standards, effective instructional practices, and data-driven teaching strategies while helping students develop the scientific knowledge and skills necessary for future academic and career success.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging science lessons aligned with Michigan Academic Standards and school curriculum goals.
- Develop instructional activities and laboratory experiences that promote active learning and scientific inquiry.
- Utilize technology and innovative instructional strategies to enhance and differentiate learning experiences.
- Encourage and monitor student progress while adjusting instructional methods based on assessment data and student needs.
- Provide additional support and intervention for students who require assistance mastering scientific concepts.
- Collaborate with fellow educators to strengthen curriculum, instructional practices, and student achievement.
- Communicate effectively with students, parents, and guardians regarding academic progress and student needs.
- Establish and communicate clear learning objectives for all classroom activities.
- Create and maintain a safe, engaging, and positive learning environment.
- Manage student behavior through consistent implementation of classroom expectations and school policies.
- Utilize formative, summative, and interim assessments to guide instructional decision-making.
- Develop classroom assessments that accurately measure student proficiency and growth.
- Promote scientific thinking, experimentation, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
- Participate in professional development opportunities and school-wide initiatives.
Qualifications
- Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate with appropriate science endorsement(s) for the assigned grade level.
- Bachelor's Degree required.
- Master's Degree preferred.
- Minimum of three (3) years of teaching experience.
- Must meet Highly Qualified Teacher requirements as defined by applicable state and federal guidelines.
- Demonstrated ability to teach science curriculum and develop engaging instructional experiences.
- Strong classroom management, communication, and organizational skills.
- Commitment to student achievement, innovation, and continuous improvement.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a team-oriented educational environment.
