This position involves professional supervisory work focused on overseeing and coordinating recreation, athletics, and event programming at the new MLK Community Center located in Martin Luther King Park. The role is carried out under the general supervision of the Recreation Supervisor and entails providing program management oversight.
The Recreation Program Technical Supervisor plays a crucial role in enhancing community engagement and promoting healthy lifestyles through recreational activities. This position ensures that all programs are inclusive, safe, and enjoyable for all participants. Responsibilities include planning, organizing, and directing a variety of aquatic, youth, adult, and teen programs. The supervisor is also responsible for hiring and training non-permanent support staff and instructors for program and event operations, as well as overseeing and supervising these non-permanent employees.
The Recreation Program Technical Supervisor typically works in both outdoor and indoor settings, including parks and indoor recreation facilities or community centers. This role may require evening and weekend hours to accommodate various events and programs. Additionally, the supervisor may occasionally need to transport and lift equipment and supplies.

- Plans, coordinates, and administers all aspects of assigned recreation programs, classes, and activities. Duties include scheduling staff and facilities, developing program content, establishing program length and budget requirements, and ensuring compliance with organizational policies and standards.
- Cultivates and maintains effective partnerships with community organizations, schools, agencies, and outside user groups to enhance program offerings, expand access, and align services with community needs.
- Interacts with departmental administrative staff on questions regarding scheduling, programs, operations and enrollments.
- Conducts participant and other surveys of recreational program and program needs as needed developing performance metrics and key performance indicators (KPIs).
- Develop and manage program budgets, monitor expenditures, and ensure efficient allocation of resources.
- Researches trends and new programs for design and implementation for program development, quality and growth.
- Work with parks and facility staff to ensure facilities are clean, safe, and well-maintained.
- Studies recreation needs and recommends changes and/or improvements to existing programs; creates new programs and activities based on demand and need.
- Performs other work as assigned.
