Whitlam Group is seeking an experienced Flexographic Printing Press Operator to join our manufacturing team. In this hands-on role, you’ll set up, operate and maintain flexographic printing presses to produce high-quality pressure-sensitive and specialty labels that meet the highest standards for quality, accuracy and customer satisfaction.
As a key member of our production team, you’ll work closely with Press Assistants and fellow operators to maximize efficiency, minimize waste and ensure every job is completed safely, accurately and on schedule. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Set up and operate flexographic printing presses according to production schedules and customer specifications.
- Review job tickets, artwork and production requirements to ensure accurate job setup.
- Verify proper registration and impression of printing plates.
- Install and prepare press components, tooling and related equipment for production.
- Monitor print quality, color consistency and registration throughout production runs, making adjustments as needed.
- Inspect finished products to ensure they meet customer specifications and company quality standards.
- Troubleshoot print quality issues, equipment concerns and material inconsistencies, escalating maintenance issues when appropriate.
- Perform routine cleaning, preventive maintenance and press changeovers to maximize equipment performance.
- Minimize waste and downtime through efficient press operation and continuous process improvement.
- Accurately document production data, quality checks and material usage.
- Train and mentor Press Assistants and Trainees to support team development.
- Follow all company safety policies, quality standards and operating procedures.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience operating flexographic printing presses.
- Experience with UV, water-based and/or solvent-based ink systems.
- Strong understanding of flexographic printing processes, color management and print quality.
- Knowledge of anilox rolls, plate mounting, registration and impression adjustments.
- Ability to read and interpret job tickets, specifications and technical documentation.
- Strong mechanical aptitude with excellent troubleshooting skills.
- Basic math and measurement skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and commitment to producing quality work.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
- Strong communication, teamwork and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to stand for extended periods and lift materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
