We offer flexible scheduling, the possibility of year-round employment, and potential summer housing for eligible employees. For the right individuals, there are growth opportunities, including moving up to the main Interlake Steamship vessels or working toward a Captain’s License.
Open Positions
We are currently hiring for the following roles:
- Narrator
- Engineer
- Dockhand
- (Additional opportunities available for office support roles)
No prior maritime experience is required for these positions. On-the-job training is provided.
Narrator
Job Summary
We are seeking welcoming, enthusiastic, hardworking, and customer-oriented individuals to serve as Narrators. In this role, you will describe the sights along the St. Mary’s River, explain how the Soo Locks operate, assist with line handling, and help ensure passenger safety onboard.
Primary Responsibilities (include but are not limited to):
- Narrating tours
- Signaling upper deck lines
- Tending the bow line
- Assisting with passenger safety
- Sweeping and/or mopping the upper deck
- Cleaning benches
- Cleaning inside the pilothouse
- Cleaning pilothouse windows
- Counting passengers as they board
- Emptying trash
Knowledge, Skills & Experience Requirements:
- No experience necessary
- Must be able to pass a drug test
- Must be 18 years or older
Engineer
Job Summary
We are looking for welcoming, enthusiastic, hardworking, customer-oriented individuals to fill the role of Engineer. Engineers assist with starting vessels, monitoring equipment while underway, and ensuring passenger safety. You serve as the eyes and ears of the Captain. This role offers the opportunity to gain sea time and training toward earning up to a 100-Ton Master License.
Primary Responsibilities (include but are not limited to):
- Checking engine oil
- Tending the stern line
- Monitoring passenger safety
- Sweeping and/or mopping the lower deck
- Cleaning restrooms
- Cleaning and stocking the snack bar
- Running the onboard snack bar
- Performing additional cleaning as needed
- Assisting with basic engine maintenance
Knowledge, Skills & Experience Requirements:
- No experience necessary
- Must be able to pass a drug test
- Must be 18 years or older
Dockhand
Job Summary
We are seeking welcoming, enthusiastic, hardworking, customer-oriented individuals to join our Dockhand team. Dockhands greet guests, take tickets, assist with docking operations, and help maintain clean and safe facilities.
Primary Responsibilities (include but are not limited to):
- Cleaning building restrooms
- Letting boats go and tying boats up after tours
- Emptying garbage
- Maintaining cleanliness of the dock and parking lot
- Assisting with maintenance tasks
- Cleaning the lobby
- Taking tickets from guests
