Job Title: SHIP/ MIPPA Support Specialist
Reports to: SHIP/ MIPPA Supervisor
Work Location: Lansing, MI
Work Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8:00am to 5:00pm, 40 hours per week. Adjusted evening and weekend schedule as needed to accommodate program needs.
Compensation: $22.28/hr. plus comprehensive benefits package including 100% employer paid pension, generous time off and 14 paid holidays.
General Responsibilities:
Contributes to the successful operation of Tri County Office on Aging (TCOA) State Health Insurance Program (SHIP). Provides information regarding Medicare, Medicaid, supplemental health insurance and long-term care insurance to beneficiaries and their families. Provides consumers with the tools they need to make informed health decisions. Assesses consumer needs and provides information on services available at TCOA and within the community. Assists SHIP/MIPPA Supervisor with daily program operations.

- Provide consumers with information about Medicare and Medicaid. Topics include eligibility and enrollment, covered services, prescription drug assistance, Medicare fraud/abuse and the appeals process.
- Advocate on behalf of consumers. Help consumers establish or restore eligibility for public and private health benefit programs. Help consumers secure services and benefits for which they are qualified and entitled.
- Promote Medicare and Medicaid and other TCOA programs at outreach events including health fairs, community partner events, and service club presentations.
- Create and maintain the SHIP Phone Log and Volunteer Schedules.
- Create and maintain the SHIIP Outreach Log.
- Enter SHIP appointments in River Star as required per the No Wrong Door contract.
- Assist with volunteer mentoring and onboarding of new volunteers.

- Computer skills sufficient to learn specific departmental software programs including Outlook, Excel, SHIP TA Center, STARS, and River Star.
- Ability to maintain confidential information regarding all aspects of participant, volunteer, employee, and agency information.

- Ability to communicate effectively; both written and oral.
- Ability to establish good relationships with staff, participants, volunteers, and vendors.
- Ability to represent the agency in a professional manner.
- Ability to adjust priorities and meet deadlines in a timely manner.
- Ability to meet department standards regarding job knowledge, participant focus, initiative, productivity, communication, teamwork, and attendance.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree with 1-year experience in public benefits preferred, or in lieu of a degree, five years' experience working with the public required.
- Satisfactory completion of SHIP training within 1-year of employment.
- Valid Michigan driver's license in good standing (less than 4 points) is required.
Working Conditions:
- The work environment varies. When in the office, safe work practices regarding office equipment, avoiding trips/falls and fire regulations are When traveling to or spending time at residential or medical facilities, exposure to unusual elements such as smoke, unpleasant odors, loud noises, and extreme temperatures increases.
- Physical mobility is required for sitting, walking, standing, bending, and lifting/holding/carrying objects of up to 30 pounds.
- Must be able to move around in multiple locations with varying physical environments and barriers.
- Must be able to drive.
- Ability to enter and access information using the computer.
- Must be able to communicate effectively with participants, co-workers, and vendors in person and over the telephone.
- Sensory requirements include exposure to varying temperatures, noise levels, environments, and activities.
- Mental requirements include ability to manage varying and intense levels of stress.
- Flexible schedule to accommodate program needs can include evening and weekend hours.
