Engineering Specialist - Gear Lab Development
Location: Dearborn, MI (Onsite)
Pay: $42.31/hour
We are seeking an experienced Engineering Specialist to support gear lab development and manufacturing process engineering in a high-performance environment. This role focuses on gear machining, process improvement, and quality optimization.
Key Responsibilities:
Support manufacturing process development and continuous improvement initiatives
Apply engineering principles to improve safety, quality, and productivity
Lead root cause analysis and corrective actions (8D, 5 Why, DMAIC)
Conduct process audits and ensure adherence to drivetrain standards
Develop process documentation and work instructions
Support gear machining processes including milling, hobbing, grinding, and lapping
Analyze heat treatment, distortion, and material performance
Validate CMM inspection setups and measurement systems
Perform data analysis and reporting to support development activities
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Engineering (preferred)
5+ years of experience in manufacturing or gear development
Experience with hypoid bevel gear processes or data analytics
Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes and quality systems
Proficiency in Excel and data analysis tools
Strong problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills
Preferred:
Experience with Gleason or Klingenberg systems
Knowledge of FMEA, PPAP, DOE, and Six Sigma methodologies
Background in gear grinding, lapping, and heat treatment processes
