Summary
This position provides academic support to housing students, helping them achieve success in their academic goals by providing lifelong learning opportunities outside of the classroom, and supporting the department through idea generation and implementation of a "Living/Learning Community." This position also has management responsibilities over residence life, judicial affairs and campus life operations. This position is required to live in the NMC on-campus housing with a semi furnished apartment with room and utilities covered year-round with meal plan provided during fall and spring semester. Provide on-call responsibilities, must be within 15 minutes of campus when on duty and no consumption of alcohol when on call.
Qualifications
Required:
• Bachelor's degree
• 2 or more years of residence life leadership (previous Resident Assistant or Hall Council)
• 2 or more years of experience with Google Docs and Microsoft Office, with strong written and oral communication skills
• Valid, unrestricted driver's license or ability to obtain by start date

• Demonstrated ability to respond to crises, emergencies, and issues in a college residence hall or apartment setting
• Successful record of recruiting, training, and supervising an inclusive, diverse staff
• Experience in higher education
• Experience with or knowledge of student governance/councils
Essential Responsibilities
• (Critical) Maintain a high level of visibility and availability to students.
• (Critical) Enforce NMC College and residence hall policies.
• (Critical) Adjudicate Judicial Affairs investigations, residence hall and academic integrity cases for the college.
• (Critical) Adjudicate first time offenses for minor residence hall violations.
• (Critical) Provides support and coordinate resources for students having academic difficulties and/or students who have obtained less than a 2.0 grade point average.
• (Critical) Creates and implements academic programming for Residence Life student activities.
• (Critical) Assists in the management and overseeing of residence halls as directed by the Special Assistant to the President for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion/Associate Dean of Campus Life.
• (Critical) Work with the SAPFDEI/AD, Residence Hall Manager, and Office Manager in planning the implementation of fall, spring, and summer room check-in and check-out procedures.
• (Critical) Oversee the room change process and mediate roommate conflicts when necessary.
• (Critical) Develop a supportive and inclusive residential community.
• (Critical) Participate in college events and activities (e.g. Welcome Weekend, orientations, opening conferences and commencement).
• (Critical) Assist students with personal, social and academic needs, making necessary referrals to campus support services.
• (Critical) Management of campus life activities (fitness center, open recreation and intramural activities.
• (Critical) Interviews, hires and manages the summer crew and front desk staff and provides training for summer crew and meet summer client needs as required.
• (Critical) Rotates on-call responsibilities throughout the year including student breaks, college closings, and summer months (responding and assisting with student issues.)
• (Critical) Supervises others in accordance with NMC's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding, recognizing employees; addressing performance problems or gaps.
• (Critical) Advise Residence Life Council for respective area of supervision.
• (Critical) Conducts in-service trainings with Resident Assistants and student employees every semester or as needed throughout the academic year.
• (Critical) Serves as academic support for Residence Life students by coordinating with the office of Academic Advising, Student Success Coaching and Tutoring Center.
• (Critical) Maintain frequent and individual contact with RAs at least a minimum of two one on one meetings with each Resident Assistant per month.
• (Critical) Supervise a staff of 3-9 Resident Assistants, Campus Life staff of 3-7 and Front Desk Student Employees.
• (Critical) Conduct monthly health and safety inspections with paraprofessional staff.
• (Critical) Educate staff, students, parents and guests of the housing facility in the area of campus policies and procedures for residing in a residential setting.
• (Very important) Plan and facilitate a weekly staff meeting with paraprofessional staff.
• (Important) Record residence hall programming efforts for respective residential facilities.
• (Critical) Residence Hall Manager and guests/visitors must adhere to the policies of Northwestern Michigan College and Residence Life Hall policies pertinent to the facility.
