The position is for an adjunct faculty member to teach Biology courses, including lectures and labs, at Northwestern Michigan College (NMC). The job is part-time and based on qualifications, with responsibilities including maintaining lab equipment and assisting in course development. The faculty member should use various teaching strategies to enhance student learning, actively engage in discussions, and keep accurate class-related records. The ideal candidate should connect well with diverse students and meet the Higher Learning Commission (HLC) standards. Teaching may involve both in-person and online formats, starting in August 2026 for the Fall semester.
Qualifications required include a master’s degree in a relevant science or math field and a bachelor’s degree in biology or a related area compliant with HLC standards. Preferred qualifications are a master’s degree specifically in biology, two years of college-level teaching experience in biology, teaching experience in science/math-related subjects, and in online teaching environments.
Key responsibilities include compiling and grading tests, encouraging student participation, using various assessment methods, providing syllabi with required college information, and maintaining student records using electronic systems. The adjunct faculty member is expected to engage in professional development, meet adjunct review process requirements, and uphold the mission of NMC.
Faculty general responsibilities involve attending necessary training, reporting grades by deadlines, accommodating students with disabilities, complying with FERPA, responding to academic requests promptly, assessing student learning outcomes, and maintaining current course outlines. New adjunct faculty members must complete specified teaching observations and may be encouraged to attend college events and professional development activities.
Non-teaching responsibilities include completing college reporting requirements, developing course curriculum for future terms, participating in college meetings, and timely communication with the college.
The position involves various physical demands, including standing, walking, lifting, and occasional exposure to hazardous materials, and moderate noise levels. Employees may need to manage and respond to complex inquiries and possess strong analytical and reasoning abilities.
