Position Details
- Season: April through mid-November/December (weather dependent)
- Typical shifts: 4–14 hours per day
- Travel: Statewide (up to 100+ miles one way)
- Personal vehicle required (must remain on-site during shift)
Home Office Locations:
Ann Arbor, Battle Creek, Grand Rapids, Kalamazoo, Lansing, Jackson, and Mount Pleasant
Mileage is calculated using the shortest GPS route from your home office to the job site.
Pay Structure
Hourly pay is based on one-way travel distance from your home office:
- 0–50 miles: $20.00/hr
- 51–80 miles: $21.00/hr
- 81–99 miles: $22.00/hr
- 100+ miles: $27.00/hr
Overtime opportunities are available.
What You’ll Do
As a Flagger, you are a key member of the road crew’s safety team. Responsibilities include:
- Controlling traffic through construction zones
- Directing drivers safely around work areas
- Using signs, paddles, radios, and hand signals
- Communicating with fellow flaggers and supervisors to maintain safe traffic flow
Breaks & Rest Periods
Due to the nature of roadwork, scheduled breaks may not always be possible. However, accommodations are made, and flaggers are encouraged to take appropriate rest periods as workload and site conditions permit, in coordination with the site lead.
What You Need
- Valid Driver’s License
- Reliable personal vehicle (must remain on-site)
- Proof of Michigan auto insurance (your name must be listed)
- Full-day availability (sunrise to sunset), including weekends
- Ability to stand for long periods in all weather conditions
- No OWI/DUI within the past 5 years
- Ability to pass pre-employment background and drug screening
- Willingness to travel up to 100+ miles one way
No diploma or previous experience required — we provide paid training and safety equipment.
