The Huron Catholic Parishes are seeking a full-time Secretary/Bookkeeper to join their team in Hessel, MI. This non-exempt role supports the pastor and assists in the administration and daily operations of four Catholic communities along Lake Huron in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula: St. Stanislaus Kostka, Our Lady of the Snows, Sacred Heart, and St. Florence. The position requires strong organization, attention to detail, and the ability to manage parish administrative and financial responsibilities while supporting the pastoral mission of the Church.

WHAT YOU WILL DO
-
Manage the daily operations of the parish office, including answering phone calls, greeting visitors, scheduling parish facilities, and coordinating church activities.

Assist the pastor with administrative and pastoral support for the four parishes within the Huron Catholic cluster.

Maintain parish records, including financial, sacramental, and administrative documentation, while ensuring secure electronic backups.

Record and manage weekly parishioner contributions and prepare annual giving reports.

Support parish communications by collecting announcements, distributing weekly bulletins, and preparing mailings to parishioners.

Coordinate parish office volunteers, including training and scheduling support as needed.

Oversee financial processes including accounts payable and receivable, payroll administration, and bank reconciliations.

Write checks, make deposits, record receipts, and ensure bills are reviewed, approved, and paid in a timely manner.

Prepare monthly financial reports and annual diocesan financial reporting for each parish.

Manage the parish online giving system and reconcile contributions with bank accounts.

Maintain cemetery records for St. Stanislaus Kostka Cemetery.

Assist the pastor in organizing and managing the annual Catholic Services Appeal campaign.

Pick up mail from the local post office and maintain office supply inventories.

Perform additional administrative duties as directed by the pastor.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR.

High school diploma required.

Experience in administrative work, bookkeeping, or office management preferred.

Knowledge of computer programs such as Microsoft Word and Excel, with the ability to learn parish accounting software (Sage).

Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.

Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with parish staff, volunteers, and community members.

High level of discretion, integrity, and confidentiality when handling parish records and financial information.

Ability to work independently while supporting the mission and ministry of the Catholic Church.
