Summary
The Fabrication Technician is a craftsman that fabricates brackets, frames, and structures used in advanced products such as thermal kits, remote power packs, generator oil change devices, and internal assembly equipment. The Fabrication Technician needs to be able to fabricate assemblies out of a variety of materials such as various alloys of aluminum and steel. The Fabrication Technician will also need to have the skills to create fixture pieces and parts for prototypes using manual mills, lathes, and other tools.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities (other duties may be assigned):
- Skilled in the use of stick, MIG, and TIG welding for creating fixtures and prototype parts.
- Welds components in flat, vertical, or overhead positions, and adjusts amperage, voltage, and speed during joining to assure required weld deposit.
- Inspects grooves, angles, gap allowances, and related aspects of assembly to ensure conformance to specifications.
- Must be able to read engineering drawings.
- Must be skilled in operating the following equipment.
- Manual Mills
- Manual Lathes
- Cut-off saw
- Grinder
- Band saw
- Manual mill
- Drill press
- Metal brake
- Plasma cutter
- Typical hand and electric tools including drills, grinders, ect.
Education and/or Experience
Certified in MIG, TIG, and metallic arc welding and/or an equivalent of relevant experience is required.
