Position Overview
Cliffs Shaft Mine Museum is seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Summer Museum Director to lead seasonal museum operations. This role is ideal for individuals studying or passionate about history, museums, heritage interpretation, public engagement, or nonprofit leadership. The Director will oversee daily museum activities, coordinate volunteers, and help strengthen the museum’s public presence throughout the summer season.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage day-to-day museum operations during open season (mid-May through September).
- Provide leadership and guidance to museum volunteers and tour guides.
- Coordinate volunteer schedules, training, and daily assignments.
- Assist with the planning and delivery of tours and educational experiences.
- Ensure a positive and engaging visitor experience for all guests.
- Support museum outreach efforts to boost public engagement and visibility.
- Perform basic administrative duties, including visitor tracking and communication.
- Maintain museum policies, safety procedures, and operational standards.
Qualifications
- Interest or background in history, museum studies, public history, or related fields.
- Strong leadership and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Organizational and management skills to coordinate volunteers and daily activities.
- Customer service skills and comfort engaging with the public.
- Prior museum, education, or leadership experience is beneficial but not required.
